New Product
Apogee Sport - Part 2

I have decided to move the Apogee Sport thread to a more appropriate place, since it was never a build but a product introduction and team ECM sharing some information

This place is intended to help current owners and builder of the Apogee Sport, and supporting gear

Jose!!

I thought you'd left us my friend! The second Apogee is also a winner. Had a minor problem with the tail, but that is fixed now. I just thought you should know; I did a flat test glide and all checked out.... Did a discus launch and caught a thermal on the first flight! To be honest, I got a thermal on EVERY flight! It's kind of like fishing with Dynamite... Too easy!! Awesome plane!!

Is there any need to laterally balance the wing? The wingtip with the blade and carbon is obviously heavier than the other wing.

Another question: during the build log by jack he uses fiberglass tape on the bottom center of the wing at the dihedral joint, is that recommended?

magee, lateral balance is not absolutely necessary - and I would add the recommended fiberglass reinforcement

And, if you feel the need to laterally balance the wing, it shouldn't be a problem and remember, it doesn't have to exactly balance on edge -

Thanks

Any tips on Glassing the pod? I am worried that when I try to wrap around the nose the cloth is not going to lay flat.
I have read the forum and the instructions carefully. I am going to use two pieces but dont know exactly how I am going to attack the nose cone.
Another question is
Do you wrap the cloth up and over the wing saddle area?

magee,

Good question, because you are using 3M77 to hold the cloth in place it should help you going around bends, but I still would use three pieces - bottom, side and side. I don't wrap mine around the wing saddle since the fit between the saddle and wing is important and not having cloth over it, doesn't hurt it

.75 fiberglass is very cooperative for this use, but you could use four pieces, one for the nose and the rest as described before. The nose piece can be cut in a circle with wedges cut out, so when it conforms to the nose it can overlap with minimal wrincles (which don't show much any ways) and the other three pieces can just go up to the nose patch

Thanks again

Jose

I am finally mounting the tail and have a question.
The nylon bolt that holds the stab on is too long. Can I just cut off the bottom until the length is right?

Yes, and only cut the excess. By measuring, leaving it a bit longer - try it, and then cut again until the stab is nicely secured in place

Thanks

Never tried to insert a photo before. Wanted to figure out how to do it.
Did I mess something up?
Would it weaken the boom if I drilled and tapped a whole for the screw?

How do you wire the micro switch?
I see it pictured with what appears to be micro Deans.
I am familiar with a switch with at least one lead in and one lead out. This switch has only one lead out?
Do you have to splice a connector for the RX into the switch after wiring it to the battery?
Sorry if this is a stupid question.
