Replacing shaft Assy in Micro Mosquito
I forgot to turn off my ceiling fan and now I need to replace the shaft assy. for my Micro Mosquito. I'm hoping that someone has experience or at least has had the body apart, to tell me a little of what I might expect. Since I was able to order a new shaft, I have to assume it's a consumer replacable part and I'm not the only one to have broken a shaft( I hope). Any insights would greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Hi Skip,
First, welcome to RCGs! You can learn a lot around this place. I have had several Mosquitos over the years and each flew well. I am not as smart with them as some guys here, but I have taken them apart many times. My latest one has ball bearings on the shaft and runs smooth as silk. One thing about just the shaft...it is 1.5mm CF rod, so you can always just buy a long piece of CF rod and cut it to size for future info. Removal is quite simple, but does take a little muscle. I recommend starting at the top, removing all the parts. Make yourself a sketch as you go so you can refer to it while putting it back together...also in the future when you forget everything and need to work on it again! When you get to the large spur gears, rotate the top one to a position between 2 spokes at the motor pinion gear. Then, carefully bend the edge of it up to clear over the top of the pinion gear. You have to push in slightly at you bend it up, and if careful, it is flexible enough and won't break. Do the same to the lower gear so you can slide both off the shaft. You need to pull the tab off of the bottom of the shaft underneath the heli body...it just pulls off. When all is off the shaft, you can pull the whole shaft/ holder assembly right out of the heli body. IT will take some force, but pull straight up from the top. To replace the shaft, you might need to pull off that small cap on the lower end of the shaft...depending on if your new one comes with a cap or not. The caps are only press fit on, but can be quite tight. I use needle nose pliers on the cap, and twist until the cap pops free. During this whole process, be aware that there are several very small, thin, hard to see plastic washers. look for them and note where they are...they are easy to miss or lose! I have made extras out of small, clear pushrod sleeves for airplanes. Everything goes back in reverse order. Just work from bottom up. It's really not too hard once you do it once. The sketch really comes in handy. I think I still have an old one here I have posted before...... Hope this helps... Ken |
