who flys 8-cell with 10X8 prop for P51?

Will the motor burn out fast? I love the way the plane performs and I do throttle management, but am i cooking the motor?

I use:

8 -cell 1000mah NiMh cells 2/3A
stock EPS-300-CS
wattage 15 amp ESC

I have been doing search all night but i did not find a definitive answer.
Do I really need to swap to the 9X7?

Thanks,
Edsel

If the motor or the battery is hot after a flight, then try the 9x7 prop. If they are not hot, then you are good to go.

Did you have to carve out the battery compartment to fit the 2/3A pack?

The battery was quite warm, but not burn your hand kind of warm. I did not touch the motor, I should check next time.

I carved out the inside part so i can push the pack more inside, I did this before I glued the fuse together.

I would not worry about the battery as much as the ESC and Motor. If they get hot the motor can burn up or the ESC can into thermal shutdown..

Be sure the ESC will handle the draw and the motor gets some cooling. If either get more than warm right after a flight, use a smaller prop or lighten up the plane.

the ESC is rate 15 amps to 30 amps peak. I think the only thing I have to worry about is the motor.

Does anybody have a motocalc computation between the 2 props? I downloaded motocalc, but have not figured out how to use it.

i fly this combo on 5 planes however i fly 8 cell nimh packs

with exception of the zero which at 22oz auw needs the extra pizazz of 1 more nicad cell.......i get decent motor life and have not burnt up any batteries at all, or esc's for that matter

i run an Electrifly c-20 in the zero

the 51, switchback,e-starter, and X-FD1 all use electrifly C-10

i've only lost one motor in the zero (and probably more from crash damage, than anything else)

i never fly any of those birds WOT for more than a minute after initial takeoff and climb out though

I do- with a 400C geared 3.9:1. That's one option if you want to pull more amps without shortening motor life.

Of course the cost is another ounce and change but I still think performance is better. (I have 300C and 400C-powered stangs.)

We (it's actually my father's plane but so far I have more flights on it ) fly the GWS Mustang stock with 8 750 mAh AAA cells and a 10x8 prop. It's kinda weak even with that set up so I can't imagine going any lower with it.

Batteries come out cool. Motor is a bit warm but then all brushed motors are temporary.

I have decided to try out my Qualcomm 830 2S2P Lion Pack in the Mustang. Since the voltage will be a little lower, should I go back to the 10X8 Prop instead of the 9x7? I think the voltage is like 8.4 Volt when fully charged in the "Parallel" configuration.

i placed an order for spare motors from aeromicro yesterday. I am itching to get a brushless setup, but my wife will go berzerk at this point in time (I purchased 3 planes plus electronics in the past 1 1/2 month )

I like my P51 so much that I do not want to have any downtime, If the motor burns out, I want a spare ready to go.

Just start breaking gearboxes and soon you'll have spare motors. That's how I got my two.
