Has anyone used this pack?

It was so cheap when I popped into the LHS I could not resist it.

I think its an upgrade for a firebird type plane - 7x 600AE sized cells (but not sanyos at the price) and was only 8.99 - about $15,

I want top use it in slowish GWS 300C or speed 400 planes - max about 8A.

Will it cut the mustard?

At $15 they may just be Sanyo's after all. They seem to gone down in price a bit since the intro of the Hecells and KAN 950's.

Regardless it should work fine for geared 300/400. I am using some cheapo 2/3A nimh cells and am having no problems so the nicads should definately cut the mustard.

Vintage1,

If those really are 600AE cells in there then you have definitely found yourself quite a deal. Before I went brushless I used to power the EPS300 in my Switchback with 7 cell packs of 600AE. It works a treat. I got mine (five packs) from www.modelpower.co.uk where they are listed at 16.25 but they usually have a stand at most shows and sell them for 13 a time.

Since I switched to a Mega 16/15/6 I am still using the packs and by putting "silly "sized props on the motor I've had my Whattmeter show that I was pulling as much as 16A out of those packs and they STILL held up (usually I prop for about 12A)

Your 8.99 sounds GREAT! Was this just a stock clearance or an ongoing offer?

Having said all that the one drawback of the packs is that your 600mAh doesn't give much in the way of duration when driving the packs to the limit and with that in mind I'm just searching round for the best way to get some HE1100 or Kan950 in the UK. I know www.eflightmodels.co.yj has HE1100 packs but they are charging silly money at present. So an order to www.aircraft-world.com is probably th way I'm going to go on that.

(I'm also tempted by the lure of LiPo but want to see if these 10C+ cells are really going to materialise first)

Well I got em in Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds. They are NOT sanyos - they had other packs in there that were, at much higher prices.

It was the last pack they had, but the price is right - they looked it up in the catalogue.

I'm not going to cane them (the batteries!) - but its a cheap compact pack at a good price.

They are from Perkins Distribution.

The shop also had 2 cell LiPolys 0- 720mA/h and 1400mA/h. And a GWS P51. Oh dear. Nearly bought it.

I noted that Overlander do an 'own brand' cell of the same type (2/3A 600mA/h) at 1.50 each. My guess is its the same cells in this pack...

Ah! Sadly I fear that the only 600mAh NiCd that are really good for high amp SP400 use ARE the Sanyo AEs. That's why they've built such a reputation since the demise of the original 500AR cell. However both these are now being superceded by the high current NiMh's anyway - Kan950 and HE1100. I fear you'll find that those cells probably have quite a high internal resistance which means that they'll both take a long time to charge and will sag dramatically if you try pulling any amount of amps out of them. I know, I've tried several "bargain" 600mAh cells from surplus shops like www.greenweld.co.uk but none of them could perform anything like the real 600AEs and in hindsight I kind of wish I'd put all the money towards fewer, high quality cells.

Ah well. Thats what I suspected. However they won't be used at high current - just a few amps.

I will see.

Well - it wasn't as bad as I expected. Yes, it got a little hotter and didn't deliver quite the power of my 600AE's, but it flew the plane OK.

I reckon to be pulling 9A static.

It looks ideal for a GWS300C motor down around 7A rather than the sp400 stuff I have at the moment tho.
