I used a #11 new blade, wet with water.

I tried it for a little while until I could get the smaller 6 channel receiver. It works but just ugly big for a small cockpit.

I would be interested in a photo of your FPV platform on the AXN. I have been using it to carry a keychain camera and will mount an FPV backpack soon, though using an LCD screen rather than goggles at first.
Good idea with the bungee - I'll look into it. My main worry about such an approach would be tearing the hook from the foam when the bungee is under tension, but maybe this isn't a huge concern.

I'll take a photo once I actually get the FPV gear on the AXN . Right now I'm bench testing, and probably will be bench testing for at least a few weeks since I generally only get several hours on the weekends to work on this stuff.

yes, time... time is a spare resource. since 3 days wife and kids are visiting her mother, I can't believe how much time I have now, despite the job! I think I'll be able to build another plane until they come home, a task which usually takes me a good month to complete.

Its generally ok out of the box, except...

1) I would replace the stock 20amp ESC with a 30amp unit...assuming you got the RTF model.
2) Same with stock servos...not the best.
3) Could try a 6 x 5 prop instead of the 5 x 5 standard unit.
4) I put some carbon bracing down the side and the bottom of the tail section just to stiffen it up "a lot'.
5) Widen the battery area for a larger 2200 battery.

nice summary! oh, and make sure the wings are attached good, relying on the stock mechanism of friction could be dangerous.

I like the velcro idea for the wings.

A brace between the two fuselage servos would have saved mine from one incident. A great idea, I use now. Just a piece of 1/4in balsa, hot glued.

Not a CloudsFly exactly (mine is still in reserve pending revision to see what makes it turn under power) but since last week a freak coincidence made me down to one powered plane to fly : my HawkFighter ..and i had to fly it in a slope with very little lift (ie: using power most of the time) made me do the mod i had in my mind for some time to have "best of both worlds"

So this way i can have a HawkFighter wich is so much fun and fast ..and if needing more gliding or more relaxing flight i can turn it back into HawkSky (tought with a way more powerfull motor than stock) quickly..

This mod of course was inspired by roovexer who had the idea and made a video about it time ago:

Tune up your AXN Floater from HobbyKing (3 min 25 sec)

In case anyone wants to make the cut-wingtips mod this will allow you to revert to original any time at the field to suit the ocassion

have you thought about rare earth magnets to help secure the tips along with the carbon rods?
or is the friction strong enough to keep them on?

In the few flights i did with the mod i just used tape to "hold" them ... they fit tight but aerodinamic and flexing can play havoc.. im thinking in trying with magnets to see if works
