AJ - Thanks for the concern about my cell phone and for the links to a more suitable one.
Theres no need to worry as the cell is my spare one that I use for "impulse" photography (carry it everywhere with me) and its not a problem if it gets damaged (only weighs 102 grams too).
I think I will order one of those that you linked to and just use my cell until it gets here. I have made a very secure and lightweight mounting for it and I dont think the AXN will have any trouble carrying it.
I will let you know how I get on (if the rain ever stops )

Mark.

Hobby King 2.4Ghz 4Ch Tx & Rx $29.99
ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 20C $16.99
IMAX B6 Charger/Discharger 1-6 Cells $38.79
12V 5A Power Supply $8.95

This is what my son ordered for his floater jet.
There are many ways to go but since you asked, this is what he flies with and seems to do very well.

A guy at my regular flying field uses the 6ch version with his scale Cessna. I don't think range is a problem - making sure the plane is within sight and its orientation is clear should be more a concern.

As far as you can see and then some. I have 2-4ch and 1-6ch. I have walked a long ways (3/4 mi) on a couple range checks and I never got out of range. I figured that at that distance, I would not be able to see the orientation anyhow. So, any more distance would not mean anything to me.

sandoz As has been mentioned, you will loose track of where the airplane is going before you get out of range. Good inexpensive 2.4gHz set.

If you can get it to fit and get the CG correct, it will work with the present ESC. Actually, the size of the 3S1P has no effect on the ESC. The ESC just sees 11.1v and assumes it is big enough to handle the load of the motor.

That is a tough one. I can only venture a wild guess. That said, :50 to 1:20 (maybe longer) with proper throttle management

Hi,
I am affraid there is not enough space to accomodate above batts. I use 3S 2300 mAh about 110 mm long and they sit as far aft as possible to get CG within recommended limits. Check me previous posts for photos.
