Friend just GAVE me new AXI

A friend recently handed me a brand new AXi 2212/34 motor!

Not knowing much about brushless motors can someone please tell me what all those numbers mean? Also, I have a bunch of great old models that still have brushed motors in them and I'm going to convert some of these. What size airplane would this motor be appropriate for? What prop?

I have a beautiful Mountain Models Dandy Sport from several years back. Looks like this motor might fit under the cowel? What do you think?

Boy, I wish I could find some consistency in motor numbers!

Here are some specs for it, you just have to wade through the chinglish in the description:

Pretty low KV, so it can swing a big prop, MM calls for a 10 x 8 in the Sport when using their recommended motors so, might work out OK

Let some of the experts chime in.

There is some consistency:
22=stator diameter
12=stator width
34=winding turns. More turns, lower KV

Here's the motor spec site:

Yes, an AXi 2212/34 will fit in a Dandy Sport using either the Mountain Models or Stevens Aero mounts (the MM fits a bit better). Use a 3s battery and an APC 10x7 slowflyer prop. Here is a thread I started just over five years ago on exactly this combination - I call it the "silent afterburner" for the Dandy Sport and similar sized models....http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180509

I had mine out on DuBro parkflyer skis yesterday....we have a foot of snow (kind of unusual for the Seattle area).

Ah Ha, my bad! I was trying to equate them to case dimensions.

Some motor makers do use the case dimensions - Himax for example. Many 22xx and 28xx motors are actually the same physical size and if wound similarly they have similar performance.

It's even more confusing because 28xx motors using the AXi naming system (28mm stator) are much larger. These are 35xx (or 36xx) motors if using the outer case diameter instead of the stator diameter in the name.
