When swapping out the ESC for one that will support a 3S battery, is a 25-30amp ESC sufficient, or did you ultimately find you needed more? Also, brush or brushless ESC? And are you still running stock motor & prop?

Thanks for any advice, I'm considering purchasing the ASW28 but would like to do the 3S upgrade.

A 25~30 amp brushless esc is more than adequate ... as was just mentioned, it uses 15 amps with a three cell battery. He did say that was with the stock motor and prop.

Be advised, if you go to a 3 cell esc & battery you can't run the motor at full throttle/power for more than a few seconds at a time without burning out the motor.

Adding a bigger esc and battery equals more weight, it's no longer a lightweight glider. If you want a hotliner, buy one, don't try to modify this glider to be a hotliner, buy the fiberglass version .

I have owned this model for about 4 years now, but just got it out again the other day. Its a really enjoyable glider to fly, and other than the pilot figure, I have left it stock.
Heres a little vid of the ASW28 sniffing around for some lift (We are in winter here, so there wasnt much around!!!)...

wing underside question

Hi
I've had my st models asw28 for over a year now and even though it flies well the underside of the wings always bothered me. the circular moulding that houses the aileron linkage is quite proud from the rest of the wing surface (4mm) and there's a channel that houses a small stiffener outward of this that is quite deep (not full of glue). both wings are the same so i guess they're all produced the same in the factory?

has anyone sanded excess foam from the circular moulding and filled the channel ?

your thoughts please

Kev

I've been successful removing some of the foam that is near the aileron arm. My best fix for smoothing out was to cover with either white vinyl or clear tape.

when you say some of foam did you remove it so that it was flush or did you just blend it in a bit ?

Can anyone suggest a replacement motor? Ive hunted high & low for one with a long threaded shaft so the folding prop fits
Thanks
Frank

Both, I removed some foam (and glue bits) underneath the servo arm so movement was smoother and blended the edges on the outside where they protrude past the airfoil surface, then covered with clear tape.
