Problem with charging NiMH cells on a Hitec CG-340

I've got a CG-340 which I have used to charge my AE600 cells many times with no problem. I just bought a pack of HECell 1100s and whenever I charge them the charging status light goes out after a short while, making it look like I haven't touched the start button. I can press the start button, but I am afraid to put too much charge into the cells. Has anyone else had this problem?

What do you mean by "a short while". In NiMH mode the charge light does go out when it is complete i.e. there is no trickle. Are you sure it is not just full ?

OTOH perhaps your new pack just needs a slow charge or two first to form it and get it ready for fast charging. Of course you can't do that on the CG340 because it has that 2 hour cut-off.

I have some HEcell 1100s and I had them on charge at 0.2C, which should have been 5 hours, I checked at about 4.5 hours, so it may have been that I had a lot more charge left on my batteries (It was my first flight on them yesterday with my Slowstick and I brought it down after 25 minutes because ot was dark)
What's the 2 hour cut off?

From the instructions that came with my Hitec CG340 / Capabilities and Specifications

"Shuts down after 120 minutes"

It is designed as a fast charger. It will not charge for longer than 2 hours in one go. Seems clear what happened .

For slow charging you will need a different charger. I bet the CG340 will be just fine at around 1A.
