ExtremeFlight Edge 540 45"
Hello everyone
 Just finished the build of my ef 540, and upon throwing all my unused servo boxes and decals back into the box, noticed there was 2 carbon rods stuck to the bottom of the box, and no mention of them in the build manual! just wandering if anybody knows anything about these rods, they are only about 7" x 2mm. maybe tail strengthening? but they recon the thickened tail section eliminates the need for carbon... any help's appreciated! - cheers, John Busuttil |

I think your right, and they are for the tail. I know the EF Extra had started to include carbon rods that size to help keep the tail from breaking. The 540 has a thicker tail, but they might have put them in just to be safe.
If it was me, I would probably go ahead and put them on the plane just to be safe. They shouldn't take long at all to do. The weight will not be noticed, but the extra strength is nice insurance! |

the carbon rods are for stiffening up the elevator. the aim is to reduce the onset of flutter. they are to be used in the same fashion as the vanquish.
use this link to download the manuals. look at the manual for the vanquish. it will show you how and what to do with them. see page 15-16 on the vanquish manual. |

I built one 3-4 months ago, there weren't any carbon rods in the box.

dont worry. i got mine a couple years ago when they came out and it didnt have the carbon rods either. i never saw flutter and the guy i sold it to was a much more "adventurous" flier than i was and i dont think he ever got the tail to flutter or said it needed it.
they are a nice addition but are not absolutely necessary, just dont do any full throttle blenders

I have the Extreme Flight Yak-54 47" and it has the carbon rods that extend from the lower rear corner of the fuselage to the horizontal stabilizer. It really does stiffen up the tail section. The link above should give you a few examples: the Vanquish, or the Yak-54 manuals should help.

Hello. My carbon rods are 7.6" long and will only be ok in length for tail reinforcing as the Yak 54. For tail reinforcing like on the Vanquish they will be too long. I think I'll do them like on the Yak according to the Yak manual, but I only doubt if I should use thin or medium CA for gluing. I'd like to know your advice.
