Great Planes P-47
Looks like there's a new P-47 on the market!
I just spotted this on Great Plane's website. It looks very scale and can be set-up for either fixed gear or belly landing. I think a little detailing like a radial engine, drawn-on panel lines and some cockpit detailing and it will be a really fine stand-off scale plane. Been looking for a bubble-top P-47 to replace my very worn WattAge P-47 and I think this one will fit the bill! Enjoy, Matt SPECS: Stock Number: GPMA1479 Wingspan: 39.5 in (1005 mm) Wing Area: 290 sq in (18.7 dm²) Weight: 41-45 oz (1160-1275 g) Wing Loading: 20.4-22.3 oz/ft² (62-68 g/dm²) Length: 34 in (865 mm) Requires: 4-channnel radio w/4-5 servos, 2-stroke .25 engine or 1200kV out-runner brushless motor, 45A brushless ESC & 11.1V, 3200mAh LiPo battery pack Link to Great Planes info on P-47 . |

I see it's at Tower for $119.95 .... I don't think that's too bad at all for a fully built-up balsa ARF. Looks like they are due in at the end of Dec. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXVVG5&P=ML Matt |

Comparison Only!
You guys do realize that this Great Planes P-47 has very similar qualities (jig manufactoring) as that of the Great Planes P-40 Warhawk that professes dual GLOW and ELECTRIC power systems.
http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1472.html again, here is the P-47 product information for comparison: http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1479.html Differences in Power System Recommendation is that for the P-40 Warhawk, it is recommended to use the RIMFIRE 35-30-1450 motor (1450Kv) and Great Planes recommends for the P-47 the RIMFIRE 35-30-1200 (1200Kv). As far as the weight issue, I can see why the heavy Ton Tossy estimate as they ask for the Great Planes "Electrifly" 3-Cell, 3200mAH, Li-POLY that tips the scale of an estimated 9+oz. If I ever consider this model whenever it finally arrives at our local hobby shop, I would not bother to mess with any RIMFIRE delivering such High Kv such that you need large Li-POLY Cells and I would personally install the E-Flite 480 (1020Kv) that measures almost exactly the same motor dimensions of that of the recommended RIMFIRE: E-Flite 480 (1020Kv): http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Te...rodID=EFLM1505 Overall Diameter: 35mm (1.40 in) Shaft Diameter: 4mm (.16 in) Overall Length: 33mm (1.30 in) Using the APC "Slow Flyer" 10 X 7 propeller with the lighter 3-Cell, 2200mAH, 20C, Li-POLYs would allow for very Low Wing Loading and make these two models fly very well without any Ugly Tip Stall events. My 0.05 Cents Worth.
