Not Somalia, German U-boats are the targets, together with German aircraft and surface-ships like Prinz Eugen and Bismarck (which are way to heavily armt to have any chance on surviving it ), as this tug is from WWII.

Looking great Josse!
I have found that if you use less glue on the two objects being glued it will hold better and you will have less clean up! Just wet the surface with the glue and you will have a tighter & stronger bond!
Doing a great job I like the shape of the hull!

Yet another update:
Turret under construction.
More work on the interior.
Because of the turret coming on the same deck, but further forward of the bridge there will be about no view on the water from there, so there will come a command-bridge ontop of the current, so that's why the captain is standing ontop of the bridge.
More work on the cabins.
Some more things to protect the towing-line.
Lifeboat under construction.
And yet another launch.
Here are 2 movies off the launch:

One more updat for today:
More work on the lifeboat.
Somewhere during the work today.
Dryfit of the gun on the foc'sle deck.
Closer view at the gun.

More work on armament.
What weapon can give a small ship a huge firepower?
The only weapon that can is used to sink half a merchant fleet, a whole lot of warships, including even battleships and carriers.
That weapon is the: Torpedo!
That weapon will also be added to the armament of this model.
The torpedo that will be used is the US Mark 15.
Here is the first launchtube under construction:
Here in 2 parts.
And here as one piece.
There will be 2 double launchers, one port and one starboard, which means the lifeboat will be replaced by 2 smaller ones, which are to be placed a bit further forward, and will be build as low as possible to remain out of the fire-arcs of the rear AA-guns.
And here a view from above.

Made the first seatrial since more then half a year, and made pics and a movie of it:
Less then a second before going to full throttle.
And while gaining speed.
Here's the movie:
The torp-launcher further under construction.
Hoisted the colours the right way.

Some more progress:
Maingun is being closed a bit more.
Gun itself has been mounted.
The least Christian croses there are (and i'm a Christian myself ), these are the barrels of the AA-guns.
Front mast has been mounted a lot better so i can at least temporarly take away the front-rope to keep it in place.
That rope was keeping the gun from turning from left to right.
Started building supports for the upper-bridgedeck.
To be able to turn the torp-launchers i've made 2 holes to put a shaft through.
The first torp-launcher has got it's shaft mounted.
Plate for the shaft on the second torp-launcher has been placed.
The best thing for building the torps.
Don't yet know if i will make an actually firing torp-launcher, but i at least want to be able to manually load the torps.
|May 09, 2009, 07:57 AM|
Possible position of the AA-guns.
Removed the mast to get a better place for the gun, mast will get an other place, as it's needed for the lights.
Added a bar, stairs and workbench (in the winch-room).
Above the stair will come a hatch to keep the water out.
Started making a support for the upper-bridgedeck.
Who said something about a tugboat? From this angle she looks much more like a warship ready to fire her torps.
Helmsman appears to be prepared to ram an other when needed.
Then the night fell, so the lights went on.
Night? We just take an artificial sun with us!
Using the wrong lights to make the enemy think they see a tugboat.
These lights need to be hided a lot more, otherwise this will be a very easy target.
The green lights are to light up the radio-room.
View from the open nose of a bomber.

Started with the more serious work:
The "foundation" for proper work is off course the tools, these are a few of my tools which i've using for the latest progress.
Made my first piece of detailed woodwork (is there a better name for it? It's also used for the sculpture at the bow of the old sailing vessels), and i'm pretty happy with it.
The captain was complaining, 'cause there is a very big risc of falling overboard, so there is being worked on that too now.
The crew wanted to sleep on something better then just the steel (or wood) of the floor, so i've been making the first bed.(Is that correct English?)
Something to sleep under, very nice, otherwise it will get such cold at night.
Stair about to be used.
Wiring is being hiden a lot better, looked like a mess before that.

Here is an update:
Pete Balsawood in bed.
Making port equal to starboard.
Here are 2 How-to's so you can give me tips on to improve my builds.
First measuring the size for the part. This will be a bed.
Then cutting the parts. I only push on my knife, i don't make moves like when cutting.
Bed's will stand against 2 walls, so i need only 2 parts to make one bed.
Then glue them together.
That's where i'm now, so this how-to will be contiuned.
The second one, the construction of tools:
Cutting the part in the right shape.
Unfortunatly it went wrong when i was cutting the last 2 pieces, so it will be used for a very special bold.
And this is what it looks like on board. Length is "only" 50cm's.

Here are some pics of today's sail with Well Enhancer and Josse I.
Some children were looking, and were allowed to sail with Josse I.
That's what you get when you give children the helm, a model oftenly getting to near to the shore.
I was able to make quite a lot of pics thanks to the fact that i didn't need to control the model while making the pics.
Then the real nice pics can be made.
Not half a meter metre away from the camera.
At speed several metres away from the camera.
The engine is pretty powerful, and that is very well visible.
Children mode, only full speed ahead or reversed, and full rudder or no rudder at all.
Well Enhancer and Josse I together on the photo.
And there were the children, Well Enhancer and Josse I.
Here are 2 movies:
Only time that Well Enhancer will be towed by Josse I.

Looking good Josse!
Whats that one guy with the flying-saucer on his head doing? where is the spear carrrier when you need him...
You certianly are getting a collection of mean looking ships Very nice.
Did you fix your lighting "brown out" problem?
|May 25, 2009, 12:10 AM|
Hi Silent Hunter,
Don't know which guy you mean, but the ships guns would be a better choice to do something against possible enemy's.
I haven't been able to check if the brown-out of the lights has been fixed, but really care about that on this model.
Just like having working lights on my models, but this one will rarely sail at night.
