Use water based Liquitex Matte finish media which is clear to give a cloth look, brush it on with a 2inch sponge brush (sponge type brush for the best results) in one direction let dry and then another coat brushed on 90 degrees to the first coat, looks great when finished, just like the cloth finish on bipes of that era. Unfortunately I did not do that on this model as the wing wires were in place and I was to lazy to take it all apart. I did do it on my Fokker DR1 and it came out great. Do this before assembling the model.

My DR1 met a terrible end as I had it in the box opened and ready to assemble on my living room floor when my girlfriend trips and falls into the box destroying the model. , she is very lucky I love her.

Yep, could not believe my eyes when I witnessed that. Glad she did not get hurt, the model (Green model DR1 the big one in black scheme) the model was destroyed beyond any thought of repair. $279.00 out the window. Fate.....

Looking forward to seeing the Camel finished and flying. I've never flow a bipe, might be something to look into.

I am interested to see how it compares to other Camels out there, specifcially the BPhobbies one.

I have, and love the D-VII. If it flies like that, this should be a great bird. The tricky part of these planes is the ground handling, particularly with the camel, which barely has a nose. The original plane had almost the entire weight of the aircraft within the first 7 feet.

It looks like the Electrifly looks a bit more scale, particularly in the nose. Other companies tend to make the nose longer for better handling and avoid the aforementioned ground handling problems....Will be interested in the flight report on this one!

Hi Jim,

I am sure there are ways to change the glossy appearance of the model, but why not make it matt out of the box? Any additional treatment means more work and more weight.
