hopefully something there helps because its a shame it doesn't roll quickly. i also have hot glue hinges which i think add a bit to the stiffness of the aileron itself which may also help but requires a servo with enough tq to move them.
I have the Gene Bond Yak and did hotglue hinges it is a dog for roll rate, I am going to cut them free and go with the welders glue hinge. If the surfaces will not drop to full deflection on their own, they are too stiff and will hurt your roll rate.

thats what i thought to, and plan to do a welders glue hinge on the next one but the servo seems to push this one around just fine

You also have to take into effect the air preasure pushing against them called blowback. You can cut them loose and try the welders hinge, probably would hardly know it was done.

Good Luck

Nope, stick with what is proven, the other would be stiff like the hotglue.

Ok I did a little more testing

My slofly28 and the yak are both 5.2oz on the scale.

And they have the same setup (so I think the issue is that the motor are not the same wind (2 1300 but they perform different) one plane hovers at 1/2 with major pull out the other feels like a brick.

So time to get another motor so see if its the problem.

Stay tuned.

Welders Glue

I have seen Welders glue at Walmart as well as Lowes. Note welders just changed the package style ... the old one was red ... the new one is silver with lack lettering ... I love this glue on EPP!

Were can I buy EPP foam? Do I have to order it or is it something that can be found pretty easily. I've never seen it anywhere but maybe I am just blind.

Great scheme on that, and my 8.1oz yak flys fine. But yours looks a lot like a Yak 54, not the 55. What is the wingspan? I have a 36" Gene Bond Yak 54 that I really love.
