Well I've been keeping busy this weekend making a cockpit for my Extra.
I bought one of those HC pilots and was inspired to make a photo realistic cockpit like I've seen by a dude who makes them in the US.. I 'borrowed' an image he uses as the pilot body, then using 2 other images of real EXTRA cockpits from the web, I merged them together to make my own design. It has taken forever! (company time ) and I reckon I've wasted a whole tree of paper doing it, but the end result is pretty good. After finally settling on a floorplan, I laminated it, cut the pilot to size, and put some paint to balsa to finish it off.. But just now I had an idea - Using straws painted white I'm thinking of making a rollcage/airframe to make it POP just a little bit more.. What you think? Well,
It 'was' a great work of art, but now you've said that Bleary, it has lost some of the appeal. I've got a mate from Emerald down for the weekend and we took everything that is flyable down to the soccer pitch yesterday morning for some flying. Crappy wind came up early so things were a bit of a struggle. He flies Nitro so didn't think it would be a problem. I flew the Addiction first and he just couldn't believe it, such grunt and how light it was. When I put up the Extra SHP he was sold on electrics and kept saying wait until the boys back home see this stuff. As a laugh I gave him the controls to the REEEPP on full rates, he practically pooped his pants! I finally settled on tossing the PZ Radian up for him - seemed more sedate and he ended up having some good flights. Still couldn't get the Extra MX to rangecheck more then 3 or 4 meters. We tried unplugging every servo but it still jittered. We even removed the Rx from the plane and held the aerial straight up without any improvement. My mate's an electrical engineer so he's gunna have a look at the ESC for me today. Given the plane has suffered from this problem ever since I got it I hope PA will help out if I need a new ESC. Bleary,
How's the MX? Maidened yet? Are you on 36meg or 2.4gHz? It seems I am the only one with the glitching problem and the only one on 36meg. Clovus |

Na,too hungover today...red wine doesn't agree with me too well these days.
![]() I have also being having some radio problems which I need to get to the bottom of before flying the MX.I had a total loss of control of my EZGlider pro whilst sloping on Friday and again yesterday.I am using a DX7 and a 6100 which I changed to a spare 6100 after the first prang where it went in hard at full noise on a road I thought it may have been the Rx but I suspect the BEC on the ESC (Turnigy 40 amp Guard with switchbec)I bent the shaft on a nice hacker as well as busting up the EZ pretty good .I think I may be getting brownouts so I need to check the BEC output and maybe even wire in a separate Bec,I got a spare somewhere. As a general rule the 6100 Rx is a bit iffy I reckon, they seem very inclined to drop out with a poor power supply.I just need to isolate the problem before risking the MX(MX has a 6200 which has been rock solid) The only Spektrum issues I have had have been with the 6100 and brownouts I think.I am suspecting the ESC and in your case,so would I.Do you have another ESC you can swap into it to see if it effects the range? It almost sounds like your ESC is getting swamped by RF noise or something. You didn't miss much today mate. Cricketers where on the main oval so headed to the school oval from racing. Torn the landing gear off my 3DHS 40" Edge so need to fix that. Wind was also blowing by 8ish so another weekend gone and not alot of flying. Was starting to like the little Edge before the incident. |

Hmnn thats no good re the landing gear, rough landing was it?
![]() Well I am a bit perplexed re losing signal on my 2 6100's.I tried to replicate the fault on the bench and couldn't.Moving all 4 servos flat out for a few minutes, even pushing against them.I had the wattmeter in series and I didn't even get to 1 amp draw. The ESC didn't get warm and the output from the ESC seemed to be reasonably steady at @5.2V. Saying all that I am thinking that it is probably the ESC,given that it happened to both 6100's,I just cannot replicate it on the bench.I think I am going to have to use an external BEC at the bare minimum for safety's sake, and maybe even go with a 6200 Rx =$$$ sadly.I was lucky that the plane didn't hit anyone or a car or even go in the drink(was flying at the beach). Anyone got any ideas for what to test? Bloody annoying really. Bleary. |

bleary,
Ground testing with all servos working at once isn't really a good test alas, you need to put the servos under some sort of load, perhaps peg a few ~50g weights onto the tail surfaces and try again? Paul. |

Yeah I did that Paul, the servos are not drawing enough to cause a problem as far as I can see and nothing appears to be getting hot. However there is still an issue that is either power supply to the Rx causing a reboot or the Rx just losing contact for some reason. There may be some shielding going on with all the electrics jammed in together which hopefully a 6200 should sort out with it's twin Rx's.
