Yeah, but DL is totally proven, all other Chinese engines take with a grain of salt.

Yep, yep. Fair price on a DL-50 is $350-400. DA-50R's are the real made-in-the-USA thing, but cost about $650.

Manta,

You got it!

The DA is what I would call the "Name Brand" engine, while the DL is the chinese knock off, however, the DL has proven to be a very reliable, and powerful engine, and it producing similar output to the DA for a more affordable price.

(edit: Ben was quicker then I)

I've heard of Area 51, but that's it, only heard of them. Never seen or heard of any results, but if the deal is good enough, might be worth trying...

As for the GR route... I can speak first hand about the power the GR70 produces, and needless to say, the decision of which power source to go with was an easy one after having flown the GR in my SHP.... Now I just need to get my hands on a Slick!!

The Area 51 might be worth looking into. It looks like it's half a pound lighter than the DL and is rated at having .3 hp more. It seems that www.eflighthobby.com is the US distributor. Also, Flying Giants has a thread on the Area 51 here.

From what I've read, it sounds like a great engine.

Michael

Mike,

In the end, it's how well proven an engine / motor - esc combo is that really matters. If you're the adventurous type though, by all means go ahead and report to us how hit works. The Slick on the other hand, would not be a plane I'd like to "experiment" with .

I completely agree with you. Never the less, I might try this engine out and see what I get. It all depends on what other people think of it next spring when I plan on buying the Slick.

Any idea what the costs difference (89" Slick) would be with

Gas 50cc, reciever batteries, igniton batteries, misc etc
vs
Electric motor, esc, batteries, charger, misc etc
