13 inch wingspan full fuse Shinden canard pusher

I haven't flown or built Canard or pusher before. This was a unique experience for me.

Shinden was WW2 Japanese fighter plane. It was built and flown at the end of the war.

spec:

Wingspan: 13"
AUW: 21.3g (with 6mm Cessna power system) ,22.6g (with GWJ 7mm Red power system)
Wingloading: 3.36 oz/sqft
Control: A/E/T 3 channel
Prop: GWS 40x40
Material used: 2mm depron frame and 0.025" Durobatics
Power system: 6mm Cessna gearbox (tested), 7mm GWJ Red (not yet tested)

looks great! it`s seriously small too, what is the wingarea you have ? Wingloading will be quite high i guess?

Wingloading turn out to be 3.36 oz/sqft. For a comparison Parkzone cessna wingloading is about 2.2 oz/sqft.

I didn't want my Shinden to be a slow flyer. Aileron wouldn't work properly if it flys too slowly.

With 6mm motor It flies about 2 min. After that 2 min, it doesn't wants to climb at all. Now I changed the motor to GWJ 7mm, but haven't been tested yet. By changing the motor to GWJ 7mm, I added 1.3g on the back of the plane. It will affect the CG. I might add 1g of weight on the nose according to the test result.

Yes I am proud of the 'look' at this moment. It flew fine with 6mm motor although it feels little under powered. I will have to see how it handles 7mm motor.

That plane is nice, Good subject. Looks ripe for a 2 gm brushless (with .65 gm BL ESC and B-B converter) for a power system weight of about 3 gm and add about 1 gm more for a 130 mAH LiPo

Will you paint it? If so, what will you use. I recommend light mist coats of Design Master floral foam-safe spray paint - very light and many colors

I bought Dave Deils' Shinden kit so I could build along with Nate Sturman, shortly before he died from cancer. I built mine as an EDF using one of Mike Cross's 30 mm inrunner fan units, and I built it as a profile foamy to test out control options before doing the balsa model.

Since there no information available regarding how the controls were on the real aircraft, I flew it in a number of control configurations - Elevons only, ailerons with canard elevator, and mixed elevons/canard. It seemed to fly best with ailerons and canard elevator. I made my canards 'full-flying', and as a result, wound up replacing the CF rods that acted as hinges on a regular basis (guess which part lands first).

CG was located about the bottom of the fuselage inlet duct and in front of the wing. CG was not a critical factor, as it would fly with the CG forward or back - it didn't seem to care that much. What was apparent was that the canard needs to be set-up with 6 degrees positive incidence in relation to the wing.

7mm motor worked out fine. More weight on the tail seems to increase the sensitivity of the aileron. I can maintain level flight at 75% throttle.

My Shinden have 0 degree incidence on canard. The symmetrical main wing airfoil seems to eliminate the need for the positive incidence.

What is the B-B converter? Is it same as Steve's converter?

By the way, I have seen 130mah 1 cell battery with Parkzone connector advertised on the banner but I lost the link. Can anybody direct me to the vendor?
