Pentium ESC Question

Thrust tubes and fan motors mounted. Don, I ordered a pair of Pentium 60A ESC's. If they are hardwired to a single Dean's plug in a Y harness, can they be programmed simultaneously by throttle stick to run 5400 Kv's?

As long as they are powered up at the same time they will program at the same time. However you MUST disable one of the BECs by removing the red wire on one ESC servo lead. The Pentium 60s have a switching BEC and you can not join two switching BECs together because one BEC will burn out. Also on a twin you will want to synchronize the ESCs. To do this, you want to put the throttle stick to full up then plug in the lipo, the motors will beep two times, then quickly go to full down throttle, then it will beep again then arm. This synchronizes the two ESC to have the same exact throttle range.

Will synchronization be needed every power up or just once?

Hey Don, the speeders got here Friday and flew on Saturday. It seemed from the booklet everything was defaulted to run the 5400 Kv's p&p, in any case thats what happened. The first flight the plane got in a flat spin after a few laps & I couldn't get out. It kind of helicoptered to the ground from like 100 yards. Not sure if I flew it into a spin or what, but it was freaky to watch a Blackbird do that. Glued up the amazingly little damage and flew again. Second flight was normal. I can't even guess what the speed is but it did make our little field seem even smaller than usual, that's for sure.

Joe, (fh64_lucky) you still flying yours? The only difference here is 4AH instead of 4.5AH batt.s, otherwise its a copy of yours. This'll be a blast when its all tweaked up.

I had mine up just yesterday. I was doing stupid things with it and thought I would intentionally get it into a flat spin. I must have done 5 or 6 turns before I punched out of it. Thrust did it's job, I'm just darned lucky I didn't drop a wing from the notorious SR-71 wing rock.

Love the way an SR-71 looks in the air, but I do wish for full floating rudders for more scale banking fly bys.

Hey Joe 1320, I was wondering if you had flown yours yet. Full flying vert's would be cool! How do you like the plane overall? Your version was going to be a 1100W?

A Sickening Thud

Dumped it in the woods two weeks ago, just plain lost track of which way it was headed. Fixed it up and flew twice on Sunday past, flew OK. Made manila folder tubes for the inlet side to block those cheater holes from the inside. It makes a nice whooshing sound when it goes by now.

Couple photos. Its more fun than it is ugly, and that's saying something! Everybody agrees it sounds good though.

The plane's bottom was beaten with a MUCH LARGER ugly stick, but we don't have a photo.

Sometimes you gotta SPANK the airplane, show it who's boss.

If it is 200 feet away you don't see anything wrong with it There is a lady who has a hot dog stand nearby and she is best viewed from about 200 feet as well

Hello Don;

Just ordered a pair of 4800's and pentium 40's. I'm looking at 2100mAH TP Pro-lites V-2 that are rated @ 42 amps/cont. and 84 amps/burst. Do you feel these are up to the job, say 3 minute flights at various throttle settings (mostly WOT for 2/3's of the flight). I just like the combined weight of 10.3 oz's. I checked the 'battery' thread and couldn't find a clear response, though a lot of useful info is there. Like all the fires caused by Lipo's! Had one explode like an M80 on my bench, but no fire. I have a few balsa/tissue planes hanging above the bench and the shrappnel wrecked two! I was sitting nearby, but not a scratch. Huh, did you say something? Ringgggggg for two days!

Cheers

Joe

I caused it. This was a few years ago when they were new and were lithium/ion's. I used the wrong charger, but got away with it for a few times. Learned early (the hard way!) they weren't bullet-proof ni-cads. Remember the abuse? The good old days. I had a ni-cad in Lindbergs' Blue-devil DD for more than 15 years, same one.
