Hilgert,

Ok im not sure why yours was drawing 200-ma so i wired in a 7805 to see if that was the extra draw, It does draw a lil extra but still only 44.6 ma.

So 10.4v transmitter pack to a 7805 to the inverter to a 5x3 EL panel under 45 ma..... Ill try a third meter when i can.

now off to install.......

Do you have an extra 5x3 panel? If so I'd like to try it on my inverter, and try your inverter on my panels.

Okay, let's get together on Sunday and compare our inverters and panels - I will bring my 9303.

I did NOT remove the foil on my LCD panel. My inverter is a 5V inverter.

PM me your schedule - I am generally free on Sunday - looks like it's going to be too windy to fly outside. I may do some indoor flying at Mike's Hobby Shop if you want to meet there - they are open until 2pm.

Ok i have 94 volts out of the inverter, I think the panels can take 120, least most can so maybe thats the reason of lack of brightness here.

If i remove the film on the back of the LCD im sure it would be fine but as its my ONLY transmitter......... Im gonna look to find a replacement LCD panel, it looks generic and i dont see JR on it anywhere so if i can find one local im more brave, JR wont sell parts for them, A guy at out field uplled his antenna out and they said will fix under warranty but will not sell parts. good and bad...... the antenna would take 5 min to replace yet hes out of a radio 2 weeks proballly but least its free parts.

Do you have a way to check the frequency of the inverter's output? I can dig up my digital scope if I remember and bring it along (it's portable) as well.

From what I remember (I am not an expert on EL panels) the higher the frequency, the more bright the panel will be (put it will also reduce life, but I doubt we would care). 94 volts AC sounds okay (could actually be anywere from 90 volts to 120 volts).

I would not remove the foil...the LCD panels won't be cheap to replace. I doubt Horizon would consider "removal of the LCD panel with the translucent foil being removed" a warranty replacement thing -they would charge you for it.

yes i imagine foil removal wouldnt be a freebie.... unless its just peeled itself off \

Ok i just checked the panles on 120 vac from the WALL...... it is a tad brighter but still not near brightenough to shine thru the foil, I wonder if my foil is different then yours, i think it has to be because for athe EL panle to shine thru this one it would heat up the radio!

I have a bench scope and severl freq counters and a pocket scope thats reall cool also but there ALL at my farm on the work bench, thats where id o most all my electrnic work for $.

Okay, let's do a swap out of EL panels and inverters. PM me your schedule for Sunday and perhaps we can meet at Mike's (just up the road from Tanners). Mikes is open from 11-2 on Sundays.
