ahh, good point. I guess I do to, forgot about the timer. Anyway to split the output? The beeper mods sounds cool, how long till you have that tested?

How are the leds coming? Does the EL panels look to be the better way to go? It looks like factory which is important to me. I am guessing the 12X uses an EL panel as well?

I think a timer keyed by the beeper is the PERFECT factory look and feel solution!

And 10 seconds or less the right time cause if your making any changes the timer will restart....... off 5 or 10 seconds after last activity!

Not sure if Tanners carrys EL panels or drivers - might have to take a run down there on Wednesday if they are open.

However, the LED solution will be the way to go on this - I have a few other things to do some prototyping on and then it should be good to go.

No so good. I think it would work fine if you wanted to remove the LCD panel (you have to go to some work to realign the TINY pins on the LCD - ask me how I know )., peel off the foil backing (without damaging anything else), and then reassemble the panel. However, I wanted a mod that most anyone could do that would be 100% reversable, with minimal to no modificaitons required (perhaps just two taps of solder for power from the swtich, etc.).

So, for now I am sticking with the EL mod, and I am getting some other material that might work for the LED version.

I just got my EL stuff in the mail from allelectronics, I hope the inverters are smal enough....... should have a working non perfected version going in a few hours..... timer added after that..... I think maybe a 555 and a and gate between the beeper and the 555 for trigger......

I like this kinda playing..... Hilgert, thanks for the help and insiration!

Hilgert,

Im testing the parts and the 5x1 EL panle is only drawing about 20 ma or less.... is it possible my meter is off that much? I rarely use the 500ma setting so not sure myself, Ill test with another meter once im home at my work bench.

I think these inverters will easily fit insdie a radio too and this one makes NO noise that i can hear.

More testing results soon.....

How bright is the panel? From the current numbers you have I am concerned about the brightness.

What voltage is the inverter?

The inverter is a 5v version driven bt a 4.8 v rec pack, I assume its charged sufficently, will check.

As far as brightness its normal bring i think..... im fixing to test a 5x3 panel.....

the inverter is inv-204 number on it is inv-th-204(2) 5v and its 1.25 wide, 13-16th tall and .5 inch thick, pins stick out a tad bit more but could easily be shortened to fit insuide them dimensions, Will install in a radio after a bit.

ok with the EL panel on the voltage is 5.25..... so thats good....

now using a different meter set on 200 ma range its shows 31.5 ma..... so ONE of the meters is off but either value very acceptable to me.
