Any one want a Pitts Model 12?

I thought maybe i should find a good Bipe to start work on after i finish up some other kits. looks like its going to be a Pitts Model 12. It has to be the baddest looking aerobatic bipe on the earth. I guess even if no one wants this plane kitted i will make one for myself
Everyone let me know what you think. Im planing on making this a EPS 300 size plane to go along with my many other 300 size planes im working on.

Thanks
Mike

Oh Yea!

I'd really rather have it IPS sized, and then put a 300 on it

Mike,
Only if you can guarantee that growling radial sound That is the best sounding engine/prop combination EVER (Vedenyev M14P and a MT MTV-9 three blade)... the fact that I fly that full scale engine on a Sukhoi26mx doesn't hurt either

That looks like a very complicated project. It'd be pretty hard to make it small and clean enough to get an EPS to drag it around with authority. Good Luck.

Scott, im up for the challenge of making it work with a EPS 300. The plane is mostly a pics with a big round cowl and radial engine. from the pics of the fueslage its a stock pitts frame with a few mods but i could be wrong. I just started the research on this plane so im sure i will be learning more and more about it. To me it has the be the best looking beast of a bipe ever.

Hey Mike,

If you can replicate that cowling then you open the doors to using even the GWS 400C gear boxes.

I'll look forward to hearing more specs as you come along on this!

Yes a model 12 would be great! And in the 300 size. This is (for me anyway) the perfect size in electric models. Big enough to handle a little wind yet small enough to be flown lots of places. A Super Pitts S2S like Jim Leroy's or Sean Tucker's would also get my vote.

Designing for good gutsy performance around a 300 is perfect for going unlimited with a Hacker/MiniAC.

How about a cf/balsa shear/cf spar? There's some really nice looking flat rectangular stock out there around .02 x .20. Of course, 4 pieces (two per wing) @ $5 each is a bit spendier than 1/8 x 1/4 spruce...

Everyone keep letting me know what you would want. One thing i just talked about with Scott is maybe a plane like this should more suited for a larger more powerfull standard motor system with the option to upgrade to a hacker or other brushless motors.

Mike,
I just think that its easy to forget how much drag biplanes have. A bigger power system might be necessary. I'd try to get something that might replicate that radial sound too

Mike-

That would be sweeeeeeeet! I agree with Gene, make it as small as you can while still big enough for a Hacker and HE cells.

Scott-

==the fact that I fly that full scale engine on a Sukhoi26mx ==

You're my hero

Scott i totaly agree with you on the larger power systems. Now were do i find a electric motor that sounds like a BIG Radial engine . I sorta think EPS systems have a nice sound to them but i think this plane deserves more performance and at least a 33" wing span to make it 1/8 scale. What do you guys think? Oh yeah, at 1/8 scale this plane can swing a 13" prop with .5" ground clearance while the tail is up.

I got some specs on what a 1/8 scale Model 12 will have.

33" top span
5.375" top cord
31.5" bottom span
5.375 bottom cord
347" sq total wing area

Fuselage 31" long from spinner to rudder
Cowl dia. 5"

This is what i have so far and from the wing area this plane can get well over 20 oz and still have a good wing loading. Let me know if this is just about what most would be looking for in a model like this. Looks like a EPS size of the plane will come later and will be more like a 1/10 scale to get the drag down enough for a EPS to pull it around.

Geez Mike, are there any aerobatic planes you haven't thought of yet? Oh, how about a Super Chipmunk, or perhaps a Texas Hurricane? I could go on.
