Thanks for the compliments chaps.
I flew the little Spit again today.
With my 2s2p 1040 kokam fully charged I flew for 18 minutes with mixed throttle use.
For the first 5-6 minutes I went mad with barrel rolls, loops, high-speed flybys and staffing runs. The performance drops of a bit after about 10 minutes so I pottered around for the last part of the flight.
I tried a couple of stalls with power off and it slows down a lot before dropping the right wing. Both times a just centred the controls and the aircraft recovered itself after half a spin.
I landed when the power was such that I could only climb at about 50fpm. The pack was down to 6.8 volts unloaded. I took 1hr 30 min to fully charge the pack with my kokam lipo- 402 after the flight.

Iíve started putting the scale details on and given it a paint job. Itís a MK5B now due to the exhausts.
Here are the latest pics.

Wow! The paint job looks great -and I love it with the picture of it's WWII grandfather in the background!

Just a few questions:
What did you use to make the wing fillets? How are you keeping the top hatch on? And is your daughter flying a foamie trainer?

est RTFW 12oz.
motorcalc seams to think it will fly.
I recon the wing area is about 120 sq in.

Do you have some good figures for the Mini ac 1215/20 to use in motorcalc? I realy like the look of the mini ac motors but I can't find any direct drive figures.
#This is what I have in motocalc

1215/16 3789 rpm/V .6A idle .091 ohms resistance 1.7 oz weight
1215/20 3046 rpm/V .91 idle .1180 ohms 1.7oz weight
1215/Extreme 6370 rpm/volt 2.7A idle.049 ohms 2.7 oz with 6:1 box.

Excellent job Flight Engineer and a super flight report too.

I'll print this thread and pass it on to a clubmate who wants to build one of these.

cheers

About 90% finished.

Just the hard bit to do now!!!!

weight now 12.5 oz so the performance will be down but it's starting to look nice. I'm a bit worried about putting the Hispanos on the LE. Will they stand up to my landings?????
Thanks for the info V1. I'm going to look at some gear/prop combos for these motors.
van-s.
The hatch is hinged with the covering on one side and latched with a very small magnet and washer on the other.

For the wing root fillet I ran a 1/16 sq stringer along the joint and back to the fuse to strengthen things, then used 1/32 sheet top and bottom. This can be rolled to form the concaved shape and formers added but as you can see I didn't make mine scale.

Great Spit! Ready for rodeo ops over the beaches @Dieppe!

I just picked up a copy of the QFI magazine and am going to attempt this plan sometime. Not my first Spitfire but certainly will be the first R/C, look scale & fly properly

Currently working on the final stages of the plans & build methods for my A.D. Scout project. Cannot wait to start cutting.

Mays Plan

Adrian has very kindly sent me a copy of his 109e plan. This will be in the May issue of Q&EFI.
Here is what I've done so far:-

Fuse formers sheets and crutch

more planking.

back end. I steamed this round a former to get the shape. Not sure if this is what Adrian intended but it has worked very well.

long way to go but it looks like another winner to me

Now that's what a model should look like

She looks great Flight Engineer. I was thinking of building one but now I can't wait to get home and start cutting.

Hmmm I'll become like others here... So many aircraft so little time?

Where did all the pics go, from this thread? I can't see any of the photos mentioned? This plan is in a UK mag, just bought it (RC Warbirds special from QEFI people) this month, and yes I know it's an old plan, for a speed 400, but I'd love to see some pics of the finished model. Particularly as in the magazine they (unhelpfully) show an enormous Brian Taylor Spitfire instead of the actual 27in one on the plan...
