Solarbo

I used these guys to get bulk balsa for a surf board project...

I'm not sure that the price is the cheapest but the wood was good and it was always packaged carefully.

Well, normally I recommend Sig for the quality. However, National Balsa has better prices, but I can't speak to the quality of their "Aero-Lite" (contest weight) balsa.

There is also Specialized Balsa, LLC. But they're kind of pricey. If you request a certain weight balsa rather than just taking what's handy, it's extra, and for contest balsa it's double the listed price,

For regular balsa Katmar Products ( KDunn1656@aol.com ) has good quality, prices and service - ask what sizes you require and price. Contest grades are very limited but one can inquire....

Thanks for that, applehoney. I've seen Katmar over on eBay, and I e-mailed to ask about what weights they had, etc., and never got a response. Is it pretty reasonable building weight? Not much punky light but not much maple-hard either?

Nightowl, Specialized balsa seems to have all I need. Thanks for the info.
Many thanks to all who responded. I bought from Lonestar balsa in the past, but I guess he isn't going to rebuild his business. Once again, thanks for your help. Dan O.

Nightowl.... surprised at no reply - she's very conscientious about customer service, though working fulltime now and maybe not quite as fast as in the past. I've had both contest and regular grades in the past and it's all been good - the regular very acceptable for general FF use where absolute low weight was not the prime factor for contest performance. Other friends have been very happy with purchases also, and her Ebay feedbacks are good.

If you'll PM me with your email address and an idea of what you might be looking for - sizes, information, etc I see she gets it.

Oh, hey, it's no problem, Applehoney. And don't tell her about it. It was several months ago and I e-mailed through E-bay. I really didn't think much about it. I've written for general questions to several eBay stores and not received replies.

I still have them listed as a favorite seller, if/when I get a few buck together for a load of balsa. If I need to pursue it again at that time, I will.

I like the kind of "medium sized" pack of 10 sheets of balsa at a time, as opposed to 1 or 20 or 25, and it was also the only place I saw selling quantities of 1/20th balsa. Sometimes I look for that because I want to lighten up a design that calls for 1/16th wood, but 1/32nd is too flimsy. In fact, the 1/20th balsa listed IS why she is still on my favorite sellers' list.
