BowStick - Basic design, Simple to build, Easy to fly and Absolute fun, fun, fun.

I thought of naming this model “Absolute Fun” because that is exactly what she is!

No abstract exotic design that will change aviation forever. She’s just a basic design, simple to build, easy to fly and an absolute fun, fun, fun foam model. She’s built on a Slow Stick frame but nothing like the old SS. I used a large motor for great performance and she can be easily flown in a small/tight place. I think she looks nice and she is the one plane out of twelve planes I have that I fly the most. Maybe, it’s because she is easy to fly in the street in front of my house. I can’t tell you why she’s my favorite but sometimes simplicity and comfort rank higher than we unconsciously are aware of.

I designed and built the BowStick over a year ago and can’t tell you how many hours I have on her. You’ll see in the video that she has a lot of mileage but like any love affair she still looks good to me. I’ve rebuilt her a time or two and she needs it again but I’m in this relationship for the long haul so I’ll lovingly give her what she needs and never, no never, retire my BowStick.

Plans on post #7 & #31

The BluBaby is a design from Tony 65x55. I am a very lucky guy, because he let's me build a lot of his Beta's. Clearly Tony is the brains of the outfit. Thanks Tony where ever you are this week.

Do you have the dimensions for your little guy here? I'd like to build one. Bob

Only problem was a duff 3 cell lipo on my 2nd flight. Back at base and my balance charger shows 2 cells at 100% with remaining one at zero. Looks like a cell has gone south. Oh well, just have to convert to a 2 cell pack!
Weather here was about 2 degrees with 10-15 mph winds - no problem for the Bowstick.
Have some Hobbyking led's to fit and reckon the BowStick will be ideal

Now to start on the mini BowStick using my redundant 8mm Slo-V fusealage fittings. Reckon a Blue Wonder 1300/1500 kv with a 500/800 3 cell pack & HXT500's should do the trick

This SS was also the plane I used to begin doing aerial photography, and carried a 5 ounce camera. I think it is time for it to become a BowStick. Thank you, Dalton, for this great modification of a SS!

I have designed and of course bought more stuff like everybody else. But this takes the cake. This is truly a keeper. There is beauty in simplicity. Flies like it is on rails. Do you sell these and if you don't you should. The vids and your comment about this being your first choice to pickup and fly is what sold me into tring to make one.
Congratulations on a job well done.

I couldn't believe that my BowStick didn't need any trim at all. Straight up and out. It was not touchy or pitchy at all. I am very happy with it's flight characteristics. I do want more power though. This plane is capable of much more that I can do with this motor. I will play around with props before I change out the motor though. I flew it with a GWS 1147. I'm getting the video ready to upload to youtube now.

Thank you, Dalton, for putting this together for us to enjoy.

I was out flying my BowStick this morning in between work. There was no wind and the BowStick flew just absolutely great! I can see why you like this model Dalton. I felt like this ( ) while flying. I put a brushed speed 400 can motor into a gearbox last night to see how it would do with the BowStick. After flying my brushless setup for a while (and loving it), I removed it and put the brushed system on it. I was happy to see it handle the 22oz BowStick (with 3s 1300 lipo pack) so well. It wasn't as fast as the brushless system, but it flew great!

Hey Matt,
Good to see you on line tonight! I do like the eye's you added to your picture!

I'm sure it is lighter than stock but I haven't weight it. I'll try to do that for you soon. The WS is 38". I do know that.

Keep in touch.
