Here's a way to couple a prop to a motor

Found this while doing some research into building a reef aquarium...

...might even work for the rudder as well

The sub guys do that with their servo connections.
The magnets are on the ends of the rods that exit the WTC.
They connect to the control hardware mounted to the submarine.
The magnets allow them to install and remove their WTCs for
matenance, or to move the WTC and use it in another sub.

Where are do they sell the parts to make up these couplings? How are the magnets attached?

Check for Degauss magnets. They sell all types/shapes. Great service. Attach with JB weld or marine epoxy.

D&E makes them, and they are distributed through Caswell Inc.

The couplings appear to be a threaded nylon or polyurethane which
attaches to a threaded brass rod. The brass piece is soldered to your
connecting rod.
