Hello guys,

Yesterday i've bought the 2 asipods.
There coming at friday or saturday, but if it will be saturday i won't be able to get them untill the next friday because i'm going to Dortmund as an typical Dutch celebration.
The celebration is called in English Santa Clause, which is not the guy that comes at christmas.
The guy from christmas is called letterly translated Christmasman.

I've also bought the second main engine, which comes together with the asipods.

Here's a picture of the asipods

The other main engine is also a Speed 500 E from Graupner.

Greetings Josse

graupner schlottle drives they aren't bad units. the speed500E motors you will find are pretty bomb proof. I use one for the main drive of Celestia, coupled to a 5 blade 30mm brass prop. pulls around half an amp at full power with the 5 blade propeller

Hi Ghost,

The Speed 500 E isn't new to me as well.
My previous model also had one for the main propulsion.
I don't think the motors will have any problem with the props 'cause the props will be about 37mm in diameter while the engine's are desinged to handle 45mm props, and there is also a redaction on these units.

Greetings Josse

I have also seen someone replace the pizza-shape cog with a full circular cog and drive that with a motor so the thrust head has 360deg of movement.

are they going to be on seperate sticks as well, so you can steer themn in different directions?

Hi Ghost,

The asipods will be controlled by one stick and 2 servo's.
There will be 2 servo's because i otherwise need to make holes in the keel to turn both asipods.

by using a stick for each servo, you will then be able to control them independently of eachother, so to in itiate a tight turn, one can be slewed over, the other can be kept in its original plane.

I think thats how umi as hers set up on her SDM

Hi Ghost,

I don't think it's necessary to be able to turn the asipods independetly.
There is also an other problem with that, the transmitter won't have enough steering handles to control both asipods and the bowthruster, cause thats 3 steering handles while most transmitters have only 2.
When i turn the asipods 90 degree SB or PS i'll also turn while not moving forward, and otherwise i just use the bowthruster to do the job.

i was thinking that maybe you can use the knob on ch6 to control the bow thruster, it just won't self centre.

Hi Ghost,

Didn't know that option, but if it won't self-centre it's not going to happen.
It still appears to be easier to steer the model with one stick than with 2 and it also doesn't quite give any more manouvrability, so i'm not going to use that method.
On the real ship it does work that way, but that looks pretty difficult to steer.

I still look forward to seeing it on the water.

by the way, it may be worth putting a bump-ring around the propulsion system if it sits below the line of the hull, as a knock to the schlottels may damage them, or worse, tear the hull open

Hi Ghost,

I also look forward to see her (or is it "it" in English?) in the water.
Unfortunetly i will have to wait, otherwise it might go wrong.

To protect the schottels i will make a construction which i hang around it for when i go to get her out of the water.
If the schottels are the lowest (or almost the lowest) point of the ship i will make something to protect them, or i place them a bit forward so they are positioned higher.

Today i've been working on getting the hull smoother.
This hull isn't going to be fully smooth as it is on the real one.

I have also been making the first wall to strengthen the hull above deck 3.

Pics will come later on.

Greetings Josse

it is "her" when talking about a ship, always has been, not sure why though, even the King George V warship was termed "female" when talking about the ship.

odd dat!

Hello guys,

Here's a photo-update.

The work prior to the grinding, i don't know the word for it, in Dutch it is plamuur.

The parts of the hull on deck 3 were breaking of all the time, so i dicided to make some walls to keep them in place.
This picture shows how the work started.

The starting of the wall itself.

Deck 4 has been cut out, also to strengthen the hull.
There will be a removable part on this deck, but i first need to check were i need to make the slice.

Put the lighting on the deck to show how much light it's going to give.
The light in my room was also on, so thats why you see that much.

This is what she looks like right now.

Greetings Josse

WOW, coming together, need more.....

BONDO {if you dont know, BONDO is a polyester based body filler, meant for exactly what your doing there, filling stuff}

I'm sure Europe has their version of BONDO, probably made with epoxy and 90 euros a gallon

But BONDO is no good without it's partner, sandpaper

I will have to say, she is starting to look like a ship

Good work, and your fast.

Hi Silent Hunter,

Thanks for the compliment (is that correct English?).

The grey stuff you see is Bondo.
Is Bonde the word for all fillers?
I don't know the word for it.
The Bondo i use is based on polyester.

The reason why i didn't yet grind is that it started to snow.
That's the first time in years in november here in Holland, and the second or third day this year.

Greetings Josse
