This is really some build and of a good size too. What I don't understand is all the different materials that are being used.Planks are overlapped and seem to end where they should be continued. How do you smooth all that out for the finished hull? Pete

Hello Pete,
I didn't want to use planks for the entire hull, so i used 3mm thick plywood for the straight pieces of hull. For as far as i can see now, the hull isn't really very bad. A bit of grinding before the polyester will do the job. On this model the construstion of the hull goes a lot better then on my previous model, so i'm happy with it for now. I hope to be able to start with the polyester this weekend, but my first priority is to build as good as i can. Greetings Josse |

looking good, though it looks like a couple of planks are coming adrift.
I'd be tempted to use blue-core behind the bow planking to help keep the shape in the event of collision, My Nord Icelandia has a layered hull at the bow that has 1cm thick strips that have been planed into shape, her hull planks begin after the point where the hull has gone parallel. a pic of the inside of Nordie may show what i mean. sadly I can't give you the external pic as the ship is now painted. Hello guys,
The first part of the hull is closed, and therefore ready for the polyester and such kind of things. ![]() Like it is now in real, also on the picture is ducktape put at the places where the glue isn't yet fully dry. Thanks for the pics guys!!!!! Greetings Josse |

it appears that you now have something that seems to closely resemble a hull.
I love it when a model gets to that stage! |

Great job on the hull though, it looks like it came together very nicely.

It is starting to look good but I have to watch the rest of this to see how it comes out. Pete

Hello Ghost,
Whats the problem of building a model of laminated ductape? If it's strong enough, i don't see the problem. O, i'm sorry, shouldn't have sayd that Greetings Josse |

nothing, I have seen a ship that is over 30 years old and has layers of paint over layers of duct tape after repair after repair.
Greenseaships makes his models out of cardboard and fibreglasses them. |

Hello guys,
Today i've went to the modelbuildingclub and the members out there discovered that the stern wasn't quite straight. The best way to fix this was unfortunatly by demolishing the hull, then check if it is straight, and if it is put new plates to clode the hull. And thats what i'm doing now. The stern is demolished, and now the side-plates are being put into place. The side-plates are identical, so that's not going to cause any more problems. The other pieces of plating will come later. The massive blocks on the stem are being grinded in shape now, so that i can start with the polyester when the stern is finished. There still is a small chance that the polyester can be added tomorrow, but that chance is not so big anymore. Greetings Josse |

well if its any conselation, Nord Icelandia's hull has a slight twist to it with the Port side being higher than the Starboard side and it sails ok, just rolls a lot in corners
by how much was it out of true? |
