United Hobbies EDF Ducted Fan Unit 7 Blade 5 inch 127mm

Has anyone installed the United Hobbies EDF Ducted Fan Unit 7 Blade 5 inch 127mm, along with United Hobbies - KB45-08XL 1600kv Brushless Inrunner (or equivalent), and TURNIGY Sentilon100A HV 2-12S Speed Controller (or CC 110 HV)?

Did you get the calculated (see http://www.s4a.ch/eflight/fancalc_e.htm) 7-9 lbs of thrust, substituting a DS-75 and Neu Motor 1515 1.5Y for UH EDF 5 inch and UH1600kv Brushless Inrunner, using 2 x 6S 3700 Lipo's?

Sentilon is know to work with EDF- abuse. Go for it.
But UH/HC/HK doesn't have any motor for that big fan. kv you suggested is way too high. It needs to be somewhat third of that.
see here: older disscussion about the fan and motors

That fan is a Amp hog. Lots of high pitched blades. You will need a large low Kv motor ran on 9S + to get 9+ Lbs static and keep your Amps < 100.

A good motor (inrunner) that weighs around 600 gms will do it. But it will be hard to find an inexpesive one (Neu makes them but there not cheap).

You can get more thrust out of a Midifan Pro with greater efflux (top end speed) Read this

Thanks, I will search for a lower Kv motor to use with this fan.

Unsure of where the first of two above threads is leading yet... Second one is for 90 mm fan, while I need shroud outer diameter to be 133 mm (E-Turbax) for 5 in/127 mm inside diameter.

All I was saying is that this fan by design is an Amp hound. For a needed amount of thrust 9Lbs can be easily achieved with a 90mm Midifan and your jet would be lighter and much faster and cheaper. But if you can`t or don`t want to re-work the ducting then so be it.

I have installed a Hacker A50-14S outrunner in one the great results. It was pulling 62 AMPs at 22500 RPM about 8 lbs of thrust on a 10S LiPo pack.

On Saturday, I met with Danny, who has experience with installing two EDF's on a Nitromodels Honda Jet (posted here at RCG), at my AMA club field (VFSS). He will be working with me on bench testing out 5 inch fan/motor/ESC/bat combo's this Fall prior to us installing it in my BAE Hawk and Dannys' Nitromodels Formost 160. Thus, we will also obtain our own test data here.

Bob-- Is it the Midifan or some other fan that you're referring to here?

Thanks,
Mike
