A great fly day and estimating run time

I finally fixed up my MS composit boom. I got it hot glued back together and put a new e flite park 370 motor on it. I'm running 9x4.7E apc props and a 2S 610mah zippy battery.

I flew all three packs after work today. It flies well. I'm pretty much still in sport mode until I get the brain and thumbs a little more training. Thanks to all of those on this board who have helped. It was a blast. With the flaperons down, I can pretty much slow it to a few knots crawl. Awesome and light little plane.

1 question. Do you guys set your timers based on the max current draw or some percentage of that? I can kill the pack in about 4 minutes at full throttle. So I set my timer for 3:30, but I'm only putting about 250-350 mah back in to each pack. Do you just experiment or is there a quantitative way to do this?

Well, I wouldn't run the motor full throttle the whole flight. Try working the htrottle, like using half the majority of the time. You should be able to get 5 or so minutes then.

Yeah, like Xpress says, you will run the throttle at about half for most of the flight. On my Airfoilz Yak, the motor pulls 19 amps and I'm using a Rhino 1050mah pack. At WOT, it could last about 3.3minutes. I set my timer for 5 minutes and that gives me time to land.

If you know how many amps the motor pulls you can do that math to find out about how much time you have.

I don't fly at full throttle the whole time. I tested the pack duration with the plane at full throttle. I'll bump up the time and see what I am getting. I think I put 400 mah back into the pack that I flew about 5 minutes on so that should be about right.
