Electrifly "great planes" are really cranking these things out...

I think there is already a thread about this Camel. I still think the Green Models / BP hobbies / whatever Sopwith Camel looks better, but how the fly is the real key.

Great planes also have a Sopwith Pup electric coming, but it is a foamy, not as scale and looks to be a R, E, T control scheme.

It is also mentioned in the other thread announcing this bird.

Edit... just found the post...

Rim Fire 28-30-950 has performed well in my Fokker DVII without any issues except a bad Hitec Electron-6 Dual Conversion Receiver that caused a crash during the first flight. Even though the crash, the motor has worked flawlessly.

However, another motor of same type and Kv, installed in my S.E.5a has had numerous instances of the Motor shaft exiting while the model in flight and I have been lucky not to crash my beloved S.E.5a as it floats down without any ugly stall manners. Numerous RC Flyers have had the same issue with the shaft coming out as the two rearward screws at the End Bell are the only thing keeping the output shaft from coming out.

Some here have used a machine tool to etch a notch on the output shaft itself where the two screws make contact and problem is pertty much solved as the screws now have a grove to rest on and provides much better gripping power during hard throttle use. I myself have not performed this modification and instead, I have used my Gorilla hands and a pyler to hold the screw driver and apply extra torque pressure and it seems to have helped in my case!

Hope this helps!
Carlos

I've got a himax 2812-0850 in my SE5 with a Xoar 10x5 electric wooden prop. I have nothing to compare it to, but I can say that it flies great. I have no desire to experiment any further. It doesn't have unlimited vertical but it does some nice long tail slides.

It's $55 vs $50 for the rimfire. But the Himax does come with a collet style prop adapter which I believe you need to buy separately with the rimfire. I did have to make a motor mount out of a piece of birch though. The rimfire should bolt right in.

guapoman2000: I was really just asking Scott if he had them in stock. I've got plenty of experience with the one I have in MY Fokker. Which works just fine

CyberJay: Any pics of that Xoar prop? I'm thinking a wood prop would look darn cool...rather than a plastic one painted brown.

Sure thing. This is an older pic. I've got my pilot done and I put the exhaust on. Need to get a new pic I guess.

I also included a pic of the same prop when I had it mounted on my P-47.

Thanks! That looks good. Definately gonna keep that route in mind. Do you remember what size hole that was for the prop adaptor? I think Xoar makes a vareity. Thanks!

You know I don't remember. It fits perfectly on a park 450, might be SLIGHTLY loose on the himax adapter, but it's fine once you tighten it down.

RimFire 28-30 replacement for those not wanting a $50 that has stories of spittting shafts out for these planes, this is what I'm using in my DR-1 build:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2112

With the Turnigy ESC and programming card, still under the price of one RimFire motor.

What are you doing for mounting your motor? The Rimfire motor has a very specific 3 bolt mount as does the plane.
