Question
JR X9303 2.4 w/ gyro question

Hi all! I asked the following question in the Radio forum, but it's really more of a heli question, so I'd like to post it here as well.

I recently got a JR X9303 2.4 Heli Tx to replace my 72 MHz Futaba radios. So far I'm impressed with the JR, but haven't moved any helis over to it yet, and I'm just starting to do that now.

I noticed in the manual that if I use a gyro with a remote gain adjustment (like a Futaba 401 or 611), I need to plug the connectors from the gyro into the Rudder channel (ch 4) and Aux2 channel (which I think is ch 7) on the receiver. This is different from Futaba, which was ch's 4 and 5, respectively.

Does this mean that if I use a 401 or 611 gyro, I need at least a 7 channel Rx? That would be unfortunate . In the Futaba world, with the gyro channel on ch 5, I can use smaller 6 channel Rx's for my helis, even with 401 and 611 gyros.
Thanks!
Ken

If you want to use the built in gyro gain programming you need to use AUX2. You can use channel 5 but then you would need to use the ATV to set the gain.

I don't know about the 9303, but with my DX7 I can set the gyro menu to use the gear channel.

Can't do that on the 9303 because the GEAR channel is used to the GOV.

WreckRman2: Thanks for the info. Seems like a bad design for a heli Tx to force people to use 7 ch Rx's on little Trex 450's. I'll probably use a 6100 on my Trex 450's and adjust gain using ATV (which JR calls Travel Adjust) as you suggest. Unfortunately I won't be able to have different gain values for the different flight modes.
Thanks.
Ken

I use a 6100 on my Trex 450 and don't have any problems.

I just looked, you should be able to setup a mix FMOD>GEAR and change the values in the mix.

WreckRman2: Wow - thanks! I didn't think of that. The JR X9303 2.4 all in all is a nice radio, but I going to miss the flexibility of my Futaba 9Z. Once I figured out how to program that radio (which took some time ), I could do anything with it. One really great feature that I'll miss is programming the timer to start when the left stick moves away from the lowest point, and stop when it returns to the lowest point. For some reason I always forget to start the timer before a flight ...

I really liked that feature also... I can't tell you how many times I've ran out of fuel because I forgot to start the timer. No matter how much I try to make myself use the timer I still forget at times.

Agreed!

BTW - I just went to the JR website and downloaded the 12X manual. JR realized their "mistake" and fixed it for the 12X. Heli channel assignments for the 12X are gear/gyro on ch5 and gov/aux2 on ch7. I also noticed that the 12X has an auto start feature for the timer that can be programmed for the throttle stick. Those two features aren't good enough reason to spend $1500 on a radio, but maybe later down the road, when they announce a 12X Heli radio with better switch layout...
