I've been using clear Scotch Packing Tape for hinges on FFF PBIII, and after a few days the tape seems to unstick itself in places along the hinge lines. I end up re-pressing the tape down again.
Well, what sort of tape sticks better to FFF PBIII foam? Thanks.

I use Duck brand clear heavy duty packing tape and it works very well!

The Scotch / 3M extreme, bidirectional packing tape sticks well on FFF. This is very, very sticky. Of course, I remove the FFF skin in the area of the tape hinge so I am sticking the tape to the foam.

As far as regular 3M packing tape not working -- I have noticed that with recent attemtps adding a KFm top airfoil to a flat winged 3D plane the tape didn't want to stay adhered to the surface. This Extreme tape did. Hence, I am a convert.

Cleaning the surface with rubbing alcohol is simply a best practice to remove any mold release agents.

I always give the surface of my depron a light sanding where the tape will go,
that and a smear of UHU Por and the tape does not come off, if it does its got a layer of foam with it.

The Dep we've used seems to have an "oily" surface...mold release??? Wiping the surface first with rubbing alcohol and a clean paper towel ,does it for us..we used regular Scotch (clear) tape for hinges for years , no problems...

Monocoat iron will soften the stickum and make it stick better. Also hockey tape works very well.

i used some on the hinges i added to my fix glider conversion.. came off too. i switched to hotglue hinges and all is well..

Yep, hot glue works best in the long run.

It stiffens up in the cold of winter. If you are in a cold weather climate you'd do be best avoid hot glue hinges.

Prof100... Thanks. I live in Alaska, above the arctic circle, and winter is here already. Were froze up solid. Time to buy, or make, skis for the planes.

Build where it's warm,use a little rubbing alcohol and use a propeller to really seat the tape down,it works for me,but I live in the warmlands of socal.Good luck Rusty

We fly down to 20F with no noticeable problems with the hot glue. If one put it to wide or to thick across the hinge gap, there could be a problem. Leave about a 1/32 in. gap to give it room to bend and make it like a figure 8with the middle of the 8 over the hinge line. That point only needs to be 1/4 to 3/8 in wide. An indoor plane could be even narrower. I put it on very thin with the nose of the gun perpendicular to the surface, then wet a finger to flatted and smooth it out. Make sure your finger is well wetted, or else.
