Looked like it was flying okay, why not a water landing? Did something go wrong in flight?

A fellow at our club also takes off from grass with that plane without landing gear.

Made four attempts to make a water landing, the wind was coming from behind me, so I had to try and get her down coming in towards myself, but I couldnt get down low enough over the lake to land there successfully. Most of the trouble I think was with the turbulence of the wind coming over the hills behind me - where I was standing was quite calm, but out 40m over the lake it was quite a lot more breezy making it difficult to manage airspeed for landing.
