SEFF stands for the "Southeast Electric Flight Festival" and it's the largest electric-only event in the world. Last year there were 458 registered pilots and some 3,000 electric aircraft. It's held a Mac Hodges field in Americus Georgia, 1,700 feet of bermuda grass, absoluely perfect field! It's now large enough that there are more than $30k in prizes from all the sponsors, it's "the" event of the year for many.

This year it will be held Thursday to Sunday (April 30th - May 3rd , 2009) but many, many folks make it a week long event and get there starting the weekend before. Mac has 20+ RV hookups on-site (they are gone a year in advance so forget gettting one) but at least 100 RV's still make it there, he has that much room. Some folks camp in tents on-site while the majority stay in local hotels.

This will only be my second year but folks are fanatical for this event, just look up the forums for SEFF and you'll see there is already 20+ posts per day talking about what folks are bringing, etc. I've never had a better time, in fact I booked my hotel a month after SEFF 2008 ended last year, it was an absolute great mix of electric planes and great folks from around the world. This year I'll be there all week, I even got a trailer to make sure I can bring more planes...

Dag,

Another excellent reason to go (if the fun and flying insn't enough) is Fred Midgett from Higher Plane Productions attends every year and makes HD movies and produces a SEFF DVD. He routinely scouts the field and includes about 5 to 8 aircraft as special features. He looks for uniqueness and of course size and complexity but you'd likely end up with a 5 minute segment for the B-36 forever archived in High Definition...

It's looking good Dag!
You know , what you're doing is incredible!
With all the hoopla over the US Air pilot who landed in the Hudson river the other day, I thought I'd share this about another incredible pilot who flies an Ercoupe, but look how she does it!
A real inspiration of courage and determination. So if you or anyone gets into a situation, "it just can't be done", THINK AGAIN!!!

With a scroll saw, a band saw, and then sanding with a combo bench sander.

Thanks, DAG

Sorry I missed this one.
I have a house on a street where they have rules, and one is no trailers in the driveway so I have mine in storage, just had to say how much I hate rules where you live. I wish I had a large field/runway to take off from. I am bout 50 minutes from the AMA headquarters in Muncie Indiana. I fly there most of the time.

Thanks, DAG

Hi Dag,

You should move up here next to me, in fact the house next door is for sale.
I have a place just down the street you can park your trailer about 800 feet away, and have a 40 by 100 foot building with a little cleanup and help, you can build anything you want. There's a 46 Ercoupe and the remains of a Kolb ultralight in it now. Even has a 28 ft x 2o ft x 8ft paint booth with lights and real good exhaust ducting system..

Been going to renovate it, but still haven't got around to it.
We have a few rules here, but they are pretty relaxed.
I have a big driveway, and you could park your trailer in it at my house, walk out you back door and be about 100 feet from your trailer.
Got a 41 acre flying filed right out my backyard.
Build an Amphib and there is a 1/2 mile by 1 mile reservoir you can see form my backdoor, and be there in 5 minutes!
And they let you fly RC Amphibs or float planes on it.

They frown on full scale landing on it.

Right,
The ID of my Jet nacelle for a EDF unit is 3.6". That is what the fan has to fit in it. Sounds small for a EDF. Is there such thing as a 3" EDF????

Not sure I would ever do it, but thats the size.
