Hi Dag, Thought you wouldn't mind this post.
To all of our Australian friends

Best wishes and God speed to keep you all safe from the huge cyclone or typhoon headed your way
We are experiencing one of the worst winter storms in decades here in the middle of the USA, but it seems like nothing compared to what is about to hit Australia

Stay safe !

Thanks for the good will mate. Im safe here in Melbourne. Its only a few hours until it hits the coast. Nothing to do but pray and hope that it does not do as much carnage as anticipated.

Well I had both cars smashed by baseball-sized hail last year (one was a complete write off) but luckily am a long way from the flooding and a long, long, long way from the cyclone.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, we are thinking of the poor folk up north tonight.

Been there...had that done....or at least the town I lived in did. Fortunately my dad had his car at work, and my moms was in the garage. Literally everybody in the town had to have a new roof put on their house, and of course any cars outside got beat to pieces. Also two people got killed. This was in the 1960's in Burkburnett, Texas. Some of the hail was actually as big as softballs, but most averaged at baseball size.. My gosh what a roar as that hail hit the roof. I was only about 14-15 years old, but I remember it well. My mom, kept telling me we needed to go to our storm shelter, and I had to keep telling her there was no way that we could have made it to the shelter without being injured or killed...
Of course where I lived was right in the lower middle of what is called "tornado alley" and we had horrible weather every spring!! Also....very cold in the winter, and very hot in the summer....about the only decent time of the year was in the fall.

So anyway... I feel for you folks having to deal with all that.... Hope you all come out okay!!

Thank Ed, after the floods in Queensland and Victoria (my sister's house won't be livable for a couple of months more, and she is still living in an evacuation centre. She is looking forward to moving "up" to a hired caravan, while her house gets repairs costing $105,000.

While Cairns is over two hours flight north from me, I have been to that lovely place twice, and I feel for the poor folks there who are about to have the cr*p kicked out of the town and a large area around them.

Visited Cairns a few years ago. Had the time of our lives. My wife still talks about all the 'bugs' we ate. Will be a shame if there's major damage.

Zootster, I am sure myself and Dag and many others will trade you our single digit temperatures and temperatures in the teens
for some of that 100 + temperatures right now!

Just praying the typhoon doesn't cost as much as one life.
Houses and cars can be replaced.
Right now the wind has died down, used my big snow blower to clean the driveway and walks.
The grass at the flying field behid my house is under about 12 inches of snow! UGH!
However Puxtatuney Phil ( the famous groundhog In Pennsylvania) didn't see his shadow today
which by tradition means winter will be over in six weeks???!!!
Today February 2nd is "groundhog day" here.

So it wouldn't help if I told you that I have spent an hour swimming in an ocean pool every day for the last month?
