As for all the stranded vs solid mumbo-jumbo, there is a good reason that we use stranded/braided wire in motors and power systems, especially the larger ones - and it applies to full scale aviation as well - it is about controlling the side effect of current flow through the wire - which is known as EMF (electro-magnetic-field). How this radiates from the wire, as well as how it affects things around it (such as other wiring, the magnet-poles of the motor, or sensitive electronics) is critical in it's application. Flexability of it is also a main mechanical feature.

I'm not going to argue about how you guys wired your house, factory, or welder - because we aren't trying to fly those applications

(Well, maybe some of us ARE trying to make flying welders!)

Hi Guys....

Quite truthfully, I'm sorry I said anything asI wasn't trying to start and arguement, but I will stand by my opinion that the wire shouldn't be "zip" cable or something of that nature. It needs to be high quality multi-strand wire...now as I said...I'll shut up...

No worries Steve, but some more numbers for your enjoyment:


Wire Type .......................Gauge .................Strand Count/Strand Size

PTFE Hi-temp wire:........... 14................................19/27
Stranded Hook-up 300v:.....14................................41/30
"Zip" Cable:......................14.................... ............41/30


As you can see, the 'Zip' wire is pretty high up there on strand count. I like the Zip wire because usually I need to run a positive and negative line, and having the Zip allows me to run equal lengths easily. The Zip really just refers to being able to pull apart the 2 conductors easily if you need to.

I'm the guy who isn't an engineer.Don't know abouth the electrical stuff.
Going back a little and the aplication of aluminum skin could be acomplished.The aplication around the curves could be a bit fidly and time consuming,but I think it could be accomplised and worth it.
As for the plane? Eh.

Wow, a 100 pages, I hope on the 200th, there will be pics of her flying.

I really like the input about all things, even if it is about the size of your wire or the size of the tool you use. In the end this is a really great place to share what we all know. I left another forum because there was a situation where people were trying to add input just to sell product, or make them look like they are an expert at everything. So far on this forum everyone has said what they think in the heart, what they really believe, and that is just fine with me.

I love all debates because that is how we learn.

But really only on thing counts, will she be 220, or 221, I think it will be what ever she can take .

Rock on everyone.

I'm no engineer (just a broken-down old chain saw mechanic) so I have no knowledge here, but I'm curious as to the efficiency of a thin wall copper tube as a conductor vs. stranded vs solid. Impractical, perhaps, but I'd think both resistance and weight would benefit.

Depends on what you are sending through it. If you are sending DC, then no (assuming diameter and alloy being equal).

If you are sending a higher freq signal (100's khz), then they would be equal in their load capacity.

But, try and bend the tube around a corner and see what happens.

It is REALLY coming together!! With that mock-up you get a really good sense of the clean lines. Have given any thought as to what giant scale fly-ins you may want to take her to? Would you ever take her to the Joe Nall? The main runway is 7000ft by 400ft smooth grass. Plus it is a lot of fun!! Been 5 times myself.

Dag,

I found a charger that might help with charging all of those batteries for the B-36. It's called the Power Peak Eternity Charger. It is made by Robbe Modellsport. Here are the specs according to their website:

"The following battery types and cell counts can be charged:
1 - 36 NC cells
1 - 36 NiMH cells
1 - 12 PB / lead-acid cells (2 - 24 Volt)
1 - 14 LiIo (3.6 V), LiPo (3.7 V), LiFe (3.3 V) cells, plus special voltage."

In addition to the Charge, Discharge and Cycle modes the charger also provides different charge processes to suit the various battery types."

The website says it also has 2 outputs for charging.

The hyperion duo also has 2 outputs. I charge my 6S 5,000 packs 2 at a time.
