Got my BNF mCX today, bound her to DX7.. It flies great. It is very stable. A bit too stable for my liking. Forward stick? It will fly 1-2 ft and then stop. There is no such thing as forward flight, this thing is just cutely hanging around

So.. First mod is quite obvious. I removed the flybar and sanded off approx. 1/4 of the flybar weights, making those cylinders look like paddles (shape doesn't really matter, I was after weight/momentum reduction, not shape). Re-balanced the flybar by carefully sanding on the "heavy" side, then reinstalled it back.

Voilà! If you let go the sticks, it is still super stable, but once you give it some good elevator and add a little throttle.. Zzzzzzzap!

Cut the flybar right next to the weights. Tossed them into trash. By the way, don't try to use a CA debonder, it melts the plastic tips that secure metal weights in place. I suppose it will melt any other plastic part of your mCX as well. No damage to CF flybar, good news.

Anyways, after cutting the flybar I started looking around for a replacement weights. Found some small plastic beads in my fishing tackle box. Perfect fit! Each weight (including plastic end cap and piece of the flybar rod still inside) is 0.7 grams, each bead is 0.2 gram. I've put 2 beads on each side of the flybar, secured them with medium CA (+kicker, can't wait!). Put a heat shrink tube (0.08 gram x2) on a top to secure it.

Now I've lost even more gyroscopic effect, and shaved off some weight as well.

It flies like a well modded CX2 now

PS: How 'bout brushless mCX?

I am dyeing my canopy and the tail fin now. It's gonna be a black helicopter!

I guess you waste no time

It can fly naked

While playing with the blade balancing (not much to do, it was almost perfect from the beginning) I've lost one of the screws that hold blades together. Nowhere to be found. Bummer.

However, as I soon found out, similar screws from the CX2 will fit perfectly. They are longer, but will go all the way in fine. Just keep in mind that if you are going to use CX2 screws, you have to use them in pairs, or you will severely destabilize your bird (longer = heavier).

About 3X. Next time I would make the flybar even lighter.

By the way, has anyone ever seen an adjustable linkage for such a small ballinks? The link that goes from the flybar to the top rotor (and keeps blades in track) needs to be adjusted. Sounds like I'll have to cook my own..

Wow, this heli has been out for like 10 minutes and you've modded it already. Pretty brave considering spares are probably going to be hard to find for a while! I totally want one though! I never fly my Lama because I hate the RTF TX and its still kinda big for inside.

I found that by shortening the pitch linkage rod one full turn the FF was much improved. I can get it going both fwd and backward rather quickly now with no problems. No need to mod the flybar IMO

Anyone have any input using the replacement flybar? It is totally different. Guess I will have to be the first??
