>POSH< a 22 1/2 ' DART Speedtender

As already with my other "building site" with the Dodge Watercar mentions, I would like to describe here now the construction of the speed tender POSH:

In the 20s of previous century it was smart to make excursions to the next lake on the week-end and to go there to drive with a speed boat, or to own even one. Many small shipyards originated and built marvellous mahogany boats which were also used for running or were conceived only for the spare time. Other one also used as a water taxi or just as a tender for private shuttle-services. The Dart Boat Company was one of these shipyards which built models up to 30 feet length. One of these tenders should be 22 1/2 '> POSH <, a design from 1931. The boat had Chrysler Imperial engine with 125 HP. The roofed construction was futuristic. Now against the usual angular "boxes" of the 20s there should be softy circular roof forms. The side discs from glass and a folding door protected the passengers in bad weather and a material hood held the sun.
Now my model originates on the frames which Rainer Kuhlmann has developed, actually, for the Dodge Watercar and her derivatives.
However, I have changed the longitudinal section according to the boundary lines of the speed tender. Therefore a model size of 1140 x 301 mm arises. So an absolutely handy model.

That's a neat looking boat but ,as with cars of the day, they always left the driver out in the weather. Bad job there. Please keep the pictures coming. Pete

Hi Ernst. Your way of planking is a lot faster than my way. Looking good and the "stash" is good too. Pete

It seems to be, Pete. But for the really surface I will need more time with this project. 50 pcs. Mahagonystripes of 2*15*1200mm are ordered.
The balsasheeting is the underskin only.

Still it looks to be a lot faster than strips for the whole thing and I would like to try the same method sometime in the future. I think you can get a better, smoother base for the second layer of planks doing it your way and a tighter fit forless leaks too.
Anyway the pics are great so please keep us posted on your progress. Pete

Good Start Fatbeech.
I sheet a lot of my boats with balsa also.
Since I typically fiberglass the hulls. The balsa
makes quick work of the sheeting.

Today I've removed the hull from the board. The skin of hullbottom is laminated with 230g glass and after sanding the edges I can plank the sides.
The back is rounded a little bit now, similar to Barrelback.

Today work at my model went on.
First I filled the back with foam and planked with balsa sheets. At the moment I correct the area with polyesterfiller, to get a fine barrelback end.
When the prototype is ready, I will make the corrected lines as a plan.

Hi Ernst,
The boat is coming along great. I just realized that you were here in Germany. I'm living in Stuttgart. There are quite a few small lakes here that I hope to try out when the ice goes away. Is there anything between the two of us that where we could meet some time this spring or summer?
Tom

Hi Tom,

nice idea!
You can make contact first with my buddy Detlev. He is member at the shipmodellers club >SMC Gerlingen<. That's beside Stuttgart-Leonberg.
Also you can go on his website www.jet-hafen.de and write something in his guestbook with adress. Detlev visits me all 6-8 weeks. You can drive with him to me. But I hope to come down the hills in the summer. It's about 200km from my home. I am living at Kempten, the town where the famous ABT-cars will be build.

Hope to see you soon. Otherwise send a PM with your phonenumber please.

Best Regards, Ernst
