Release has been postponed & is now expected November according to latest word from my buds in the EU.

Has anyone heard anything new on Lindberg's new IJN sub release?

Thanks Hermill,

I am looking forward to the S-100.
Gonna probably be the greatest injection molded boat made, and cheap, $200 range hopefully

Imagine 200k$+ in tooling at least.

Start saving your pennies! I saw this on Modelshipwrights today:

Product Update 1/35 Italeri S100 Schnellboot

Sunday, October 12, 2008 - 07:08 AM BST

By SEAN FORD

As a follow on to the earlier news report of Kenny Loup on the 8th of February 2008 in regard to the Italeri release of its 1/35 Schnellboot S 100 German WW II Torpedo Boat . It has been announced that this kit is going to include over 450 plastic parts, 22 clear parts, two different diameters of rope and over 90 photo-etch parts. It will even come with a screwdriver to assist in assembly.

Check out that box art image its certainly dynamic and cannot fail to get the heartbeat racing.

The most exciting news is that it is now a reasonable assumption that the release of this kit is now very imminent as the Great Models Webstore have now announced that they are accepting pre-orders. The suggested retail price has been announced as US$249.95 however pre-orders are now being accepted at the Great Models website at a price of US $175.00

The full details of this set is outlined below:

Schnellboot S 100 German WW II Torpedo Boat
Manufacturer : Italeri
Scale : 1/35
Series : Kitset
Release Date : Pending pre-orders being accepted
Suggested Retail Price : US$249.95
Item code : ITA5603

Cool thanks.

Wonder what to use for power. Thinking geared speed 480's, or direct 540's

I would probably do the geared 400's, got that cool gear whine.

With 3 drives, I think that should be sufficient. Have you seen the photos of the pre-production hull I posted in July? This is going to be an amazing kit & puts my TJ S-100 to shame.

I'm planning to buy two of these, one to build as is & other to part out for my S-100 that is will be mid open bridge version. Now all I have to do is find a way to hide this transaction from the other half of the household.

Are you going to use the whole kit or are you upgrading the TJ model?

Both. At the pre order price, I intend to get an extra one to upgrade the TJ model since it will be cheaper than buying kits from DreamArts.

It is more likely you will get a better deal after boats hit a number of dealers and Ebay.

Based on the what we've seen with Italeri's PT-596, its MSRP is $149.95 & sells for $105-130; I've seen it offered under $100 at one point. Considering the economy, the price will certainly be bouncing all over the place but doubt it will go much further than the 35% discount you typically see for a new kit.

Based on the discussion I had with their sales manager in July, they plan expand this 1/35 offering with new versions of both kits & won't want the market price to drop too low.

There is a sneak preview of an Italeri S-100 build over at IPMS Austria site. Looks like this is really going to be a one nice kit to RC!

One seriously expensive plastic model too, isn't it? I thought I read it was going to be around $250 USD. And then how much more for the brass PE?

True, MSRP is $249 but you can find dealers already pre-selling the kit as low as $170 & you can bet the pricing will stay in that range based on today's market. Also, unlike Italeri's PT-596, I doubt you'll need to spend anything on detail upgrades based on the amount of photo etch included in this kit.

Personally, I think its one hellava bargain compared to TianJie's kit (SSY - $330) & Graupner's RTR S-100 ($$$$) & the detail shown on these photos is far superior. Considering I'll end up spending at least $120 upgrading parts on my TJ S-100, I think its a good deal.

Again, it all comes down to the value of what you pay for.
