Question
Marske Pioneer 3

Has anyone built an r/c model of this sailplane with built up wings (scale unimportant)? I'm looking for rib drawings or anything else I can get my hands on. I have the plan view and root/tip shapes from Marske but I need additional info to turn into a set of wing plans. Any help would be appreciated.

I used Profili 2.0 to do the wing ribs.

I have not built one yet but the exercise was fun to do.

Locals have opin'd that a Wing is harder to tell when in lift
as well as near stall so I've kinda abandoned to project.

Thanks for the reply. Would it be possible to get a dxf of your wing ribs/layout? I've been told by Markse that there are several scale models of the P2 and P3 and they fly quite well.

I'm sure they do.

Let me take look, re rib files, as it's been a while ! Be back later !

I got this from Jim so if there is a different Tip foil I wouldnt know.

I'll go check my Profili files next

Oops . It looks like with a few computer swaps and disc changes
I dont have those ribs just now.

I could toss it together again if you're still interested.
I could do Two panels
Root to break
and
Break to Tip rib.

Should be fairly easy to Redo

Um ??? What SIZE/SCALE were you interested in ?

OK YOU can scale to whatever you want since it's DXF.
However, I'm not proud of this effort as the Airfoils was imported to Profili
using a JPG image. IT did not translate very smoothly IMHO.
Therefore I believe that Profili kinda got jerky with the rest of the rib too.
Regardless you have a ZIP of a DXF that has pretty close approximations.

IF your CAD is good enough you can to some Curve Smoothing.

These ribs will have to be placed ON the Wing Plan to suit your build.
Plus I kinda guessed at the TE composite thickness,
and guessed at the Spar size and placement was done with the Auto mode.
for Dbox type construction.

Let me know

It would be greatly appreciated if you could throw something together. Two panels would be fine. I recently received the profiles to carve the wing tips. I am looking at 1/4 scale (once I get the flying and proven I plan to build one 1/3 scale - but that's somewhere down the road).

Are you planning on a Glass Fuse ?

Maybe we could trade / barter some and I could CNC the Ribs on my machine.

Thats another thing I had planned to do.
I even have a 3D carving file for a lost foam version P3.
Two part - left and Right
Toolpath was for the 3D Model that I created using Jims Fuse sections.

Whats your method going to be ?

here is a screen shot of the finish pass tool path

My plan is to use the old build the plug by hand methed. I've got the cross sections and top/side views drawn to scale. All that is left is to print them out.

Noting the 16 views of the ribs I have to say I've been makeing UPDATES this PM.

It's TO 1/3 scale now with ...
1/16 sheeting top and bottom
Spars are in scale locations
Drag spar added
LE modified to tapered
Lightening holes modified
Spoiler slots added

No provision for PLUG in or webing so far.

I'm having a MELT DOWN !!!

I found a recent P3 Pic on Marske's site
Thought I'd just Cross Check a few things.

So I put it up in my CAD and overlayed my 3D Fuse wireframe
and AAAAAAAAAA ?!?!?!?

The Root rib is WAAAY Thicker than the Rib outline I got from Jim as a dxf file.

Yeah, I know about stuff like Perspective but this is WAY more than that.

Do you have any more recent info ?

The BLACK is the rib outline PLUS the edge on view of the TE Fillet to fuse.
It's nose is as close as I can guess, ON the nose of root in the Pic.

Towards the TE there is what appears to be a flap deflection gage.
It kinda obscures the fillet and exactly where the TE is actually at.
Centered is my guess.

According to Mr. Marske, at that scale a slight thinner than scale airfoil would actually be benificial. How does it match up to your fuselage drawing?

If you are still interested in plans (I just read your thread) I have a good friend who has the Pioneer drawn up in AutoCad. He is good friends with Marske. In fact Marske built the first Pioneer in my friends backyard back in the day.I could send you a set of his cad files, DWG or DFX.

jhraley: sent PM also - thanks in advance :-)

Sail-r:
Worked on the 3D model some more and made improvements to the
Fin Fuse intersection plus added the Wheel pant and read skid
per the Pic previously mentioned.

I have a Roughing and Finish toolpath generated for 4" thick foam.
What I have in house is a piece of 2" and two 1" pieces.
I will attempt to GLUE THEM together with a Plywood backer.
Probably moisten both sheets and use some foaming Urethane type glue
Bordens is fairly cheap !
The stuff foams and hardens and should be relatively good re machining.

Failing that, I'll have to hit the road and purchase a big sheet of 4" if I can locate
a supplier of that thickness.
