Wow, looks simple to do. I just need to buy a proper heat gun.

From Balsa easier to prepare the mould, than from a pinewood, but I have no balsa.

"Proper?"
For me that's just a propane bottle! I use this technique too, great for pod/boom planes. Nice Job!

What a hoot! Great minds. . . . Just used a pink foam "mold" to heat form a water bottle top into a cowl for my blu ripper. I agree the blow molded bottles are perfect for cowls and canopies!

Bet you could do it with a hair dryer! Doesn't take much heat to start the shrinkage.

The canopy I need to make is for a 6 foot WS Pitts. I am making a foam one first then later I will use it to make a mold for a plug and try your clever idea. Will be a while before I get it done.

You want to add something to the process, try sealing a plastic bag around the edges of the piece of plastic cut from the pop bottle. Then stick a small vacuum wand into the plastic bag and tape that for a seal.

What you want is that the tip of the vacuum source does not get plugged up when the vacuum is turned on (use some porous foam or something).

Then apply the heat from the gun, turn the vacuum on, and you can pull some wildly complex and symmetrical curves. It all boils down to having a nicely shaped block and getting the plastic to give in the the suction.

Remember, vacuum forming sucks!
