The tests got abused in the south (primarilly by Democrats) in attempts to prevent blacks from voting... and thus the successful challenge to the practice of having the test)

Poll taxes were designed to inhibit people from oting if they didn't have the financial ability to support themselves. (if you're too stupid to be able to support yourself you're too stupid to vote)

The system was DESIGNED to keep the uneducated poor from voting, because its easy to "buy" the poor uneducated people's votes by promising them freebies (welfare for example...)

Shortly after the Constitution was ratified and George Washington was elected as our first President it was predicted that the new system would work... until the masses figured out that they could vote themselves free money.

Well.. now the primary issues that politicians tend to run on amount to... free money to the poor and "working poor"... and we have an ever increasing national debt and an increasingly socialist system. (exactly what the Founding Fathers warned we should work to avoid...)
Interesting.....

I agree 100%,when used in the context of why and when. Today we tend to claim we are a civilized country. Using the same logic one would also believe people with money are always wanting more and are just as easily bought. Greed runs and is ruining capitalism and Democracy. It is and will be the only downfall of this country.

The problem I have with those claims like that would be the fact that common sense isn't reserved only to those who can afford it. Theres only those who believe so.
I guess if you were correct in that Parris Hilton should be able to vote before any of us.

Paris Hilton can read?

Actually... look at the rebuttal commercial she made when McCain flashed her picture trying to put down Obama...

She came across as smarter than either Obama or McCain.
(Not all that hard... especially after watching the first debate)

Uh... gee. I saw the poll, voted yes, because I am an AMA member, read the original question and realized it was probably wrong for me to vote so because I don't actually visit this forum very often. Popped over here to the last page to find this off-topic conversation about the political candidates. As I already have a forum I argue politics in, I believe i'll just excuse m'self, gentleman. Ya'll enjoy yourselves.

No doubt. I'm not sure how topics get so far astray so quickly. How many posts did this one stay on topic before it wondered off? I think this one lasted 4 posts.

Thanks for voting and sharing your comments. I did expect a few more votes based on the number of AMA members here on RCG, but I certainly understand why folks would not visit this forum.

It's all good. I just wanted to see how many AMA members actually visit this forum. Thanks for voting.

You do bring up a very good point though. Typically folks won't visit this forum if they don't have any problems or issues to discuss (or rant about as we noticed). Very good point. I hadn't thought about that.

I voted yes. While I don't fly at the AMA headquarters, I do fly other places and AMA is needed to fly there. I also fly at full scale airports that are designated as model plane sites by the FAA. We have to have AMA to fly there.

I did visit the AMA headquaters. Wow, I just love the site.

Issues with AMA, well for me none, interesting poll. I usually visit threads higher up on the list, so with no real rants or other items, there is not much else.

I have been a member for 45+ years, and I think there is some limited effect on elections, however not enough to "sway" the results, so I guess you can count me as a "No" vote.

I do TOTALLY agree that there is too much negativity on these forums, that tend to turn away contributions from a lot of members. A lot of members I know read but do not post. I have gotten many emails from members/non-members/future members wishing to ask questions OFF the forum to avoid the personal attacks and negativity.

Am I an AMA member?

Frank,

Yes, I'm a member, and have been for longer than most here have been alive. I have been trying without success to be able to post here, but every time I do, there is a self appointed, "Hall Monitor" who has me banned. this will probably happen again after this post. See you in the, "Real Forum."

Ha!

Hey, Bill, that makes two of us. Both old AMAers and both get banned almost every post.

I think that means we have them surrounded.

127 members. I guess that's not a bad showing here on RCG.
