I kinda think the AMA is discouraging new members right from the start.
I think so because when I got my AMA 2 or 3 months ago they said it will be ready in a week.
Three weeks later I finally got it.
I didn't have a problem as I called the the second week and got my AMA number.
I didn't bother me two much, but I can see some very impatient people getting VERY angry

I am an AMA member in good standing, I seldom visit this forum, maybe a couple of times a year. I look over the topics and read a page or two.
Like many members my AMA membership is a requirement to be a member of the club I fly with. I am not pro or con AMA and for the most part I don't know what is going on with the executives.
Since I don't know any of the executives or any of the candidates personally, the only way to "know" anything about them is to read the blurb each one publishes before the election ... unfortunately this does little to distinguish one from another.
Like being an officer in the local club being an officer in the AMA has to be a thankless job, no matter which direction is pushed there will be a very vocal minority ripping it to pieces and yet offering nothing constructive as an alternative.
Could the AMA be better ??
Maybe; but I have no suggestions to propose to make it so.

So to the question of
...... what kind of impact does RC forum users actually make on AMA elections if we all decided to vote one way or another. Is there enough active users in this forum to make a difference? ........
With AMA membership listed as 150,000+ (assume 10% of that population votes) that is 15,000 voting members ... if there are 1100 AMA members that participate in the forum that is 7.3% of the 15,000 .... I doubt that you could get 110 (10%) of those members to agree on anything much less all 1100 ...... so my conclusion is no the forum users make no difference.

For the few who desire to be the leaders and are not able to muster up the support that they need, perhaps it is time to recognize that your message is not being accepted as presented by the membership at large. If you truly do desire to be the leader then you have to learn to lead by building consensus instead of sowing dissent.

Actual results of AMA elections... you are being optimistic about the number of vote cards getting mailed in. The AMA would like it if 10% bothered to vote...

I agree. I also don't think there are enough AMA members that visit this forum to make a difference although I could be wrong. It's early for the poll, so we'll wait and see.

just to show you how AMA works read this.
AMa has a Builder of the model rule in the free flight rules of the ama rule book.
well several years ago there was a guy on the west coast selling F1j kits he was getting fron the Ukraine.
several people bought them.
when i got mine i realey thought the workman ship was exelant.
i contacted ama and talked to there tech director and told him what i had and what had to be done to finish this model to get iy in the air.
he told me to send him a e mail telling him what i had told him on the phone.
i sent him a e mail describeing everything.
several weeks went by and finely i called him again and he said that the model i had would not come under the builder of the model rule.
and i could not fly it in any of the ama sponcered contests
well this guy i know from texas has the same model i have with a 049 engine on it.
i watched him trimming this model at a contest i was at in fl.
so now this guy goes all over the country entering contests and winning them with the very same mosel that i was told couldn't be flown in ama contests.
now get this .
he goes to the ama national in munci ia and wins the free flight event with this plane and nobody says a thing about it or even questions if it meets the builder of the model rule.
and the tech director already knew about this but didn't do anything to stop this from hapening.
whe4n i talked to the tech director about this model he said that he would adress this in one of his columes in the model avation mag.
that was 7 years ago and i never saw one word spoke about this in any of his columes.
he sure likes to write about flying his helecopter though.
Don.

How did we get so far off track? I thought this was just a poll thread to see how many AMA members visit this forum?

We didn't get off track. I just felt it necessary to point out that the AMA is a little behind schedule in delivering your card, and other members pointed out other things.
But to tell the truth, not a lot of people visit the AMA section for some reason

I understand and it's all good, I just didn't want to turn this into another love or hate the AMA, or its members or non-members thread. That was not my intent.

That's probably a reason why this area of RCG does not get a lot of traffic.

Thanks for your feedback.

It looks like you need to add a third option to the poll:

- I'm not an AMA member, and I don't believe in spell checkers either.

I'm not an AMA member and ll I want to do is complain about the AMA.

Hey, your right, movies use to cost a nickle and gas was 25 cent a gallon. Guess I should complain???

Pondering this statement made me think .... hummmmmmmm .... why would anyone that is not an AMA member ever look at this forum other than to be a troll ???
Any non-member seeking information about the AMA would be better served by the AMA website.

No doubt about that. The AMA website has tons more information that can be found here. Not to mention all of that info sans negativity.

"Please vote "Yes" or "No" to being an AMA member."

Oh and by the way...
If you vote *No* you are a troll and will be reported!!!!

Silly me!
I actually came here to vote... and yes I got reported!
Way to represent!

Seems the vote count is running pretty much how I figured it would go so far. It almost mirrors the other forum's count although these numbers are slightly down -which is to be expected. Certainly no where near the numbers we saw in the "Yes" or "No" poll that Fred linked to earlier.
