I've used an EMP 3530/1100kv motor. The major thing that you'll have to worry about, will be overheating those flimsy wires, as I did with my similar motor. Look at the video below and you'll see what happened to mine after 3 minutes of a full throttle climb. But, like I always say, if you buy cheap, expect cheap! Just don't be a yahoo on the throttle, like I was and you'll be fine.

great advice

thank you very much for the great advice and video.
as i have noticed that my rad climbs at 1/2 throttle, i think (hope) i will not overheat the wires.
i am planning of using a 30 a esc on it and same (original) prop.
what pack are you using?
thanks again.

replacement spinner

now what about a replacement spinner?
2", or between 52 and 55 mm dia., that fits the 4mm shaft.
ideally plastic, and if possible, that matches the original prop blades.
and more pointed?
can't find any at hk!

The original spinner/prop adapter is 2.5in in Dia., which equals 63.5mm in Dia. metric. As far as the spinner is concerned, you'd more than likely have to go with one slightly larger, or smaller, if you're looking for a pointier spinner, as well as one that's either carbon fiber, or aluminum, which HK, has a pretty good choice, or ebay.

I use both, a 2200mah 3S Lipo, as well as, a 1300mah Lipo. Can't give you the specifics about it's balance weight, due to my different camera mounting setups, but without any of my mounts and cameras onboard, it balanced at 2 inch back from leading edge with 2200mah 3S Lipo and about 2.5in from LE with 1300mah Lipo. With my cameras and mounts added, it's waaaaayyyy, different.

I know, but it was such a fast motor, that I decided to try my luck and push it for a 3 minute climb, but, no luck....

You might want to check the math here. 2.5" is 63.5 mm. The OEM spinner is about 52mm which is a shade over 2". Most 2" spinners look fine in place - such as the Cularis.

interesting. thanks. i have been using it with 1 pack of 3x1000-and 24 gr ballast, and also with a 3x1300 pack. both weigh about 105 g and balances at 2-1/2"=33%. a 3x2200 may make it too heavy for thermalling, and will need to add some ballast at the tail, but would make it good for windy weather.

I thermal quite a bit with my 2200mah lipo. That's one of the main things I set out to do, when the days are just right for thermaling. Just balance out your plane and it's not really going to much matter which type of battery you're using, at least it hasn't mattered much to me.

No offense guys, but those GoPro cameras make things look like google earth 3D. Just too artificial for my taste, but that's just me.

Is 9 to 10 mph a good wind speed to search for thermals in? That is typically the wind speed at the field I fly at, and it takes a little courage for me to launch and fight the gusts.
