I am flying the stock prop. Great climb!

The active discussions about changing the prop for climb performance were for the Radian Pro, not the Radian. The Pro is a different glider and the early batch of props were not shaped properly apparently.

4 or 5 climbs, assuming about 30 seconds full throttle and stock (_1) prop.

With the standard 1300 mAh you generally can count on 6 climbs.

I agree that the stock prop climbs great! ... but it was not quite enough to get me to 200m (656 ft) with a 30 sec motor burn for ALES competition. I was getting to about 550 feet in 30 seconds. I can get to 200m in about 25 secs with a graupner 11x8 though.

If you choose to use tape it is better to cut strips and lay them inside the wing cutout parallel with the center-line of the fuselage. The best tape is 3M/Scotch Extreme, which has a cross weave.
I used light fiberglas and epoxy on the inside top of the saddle: Snug fit for wings, light, strong.

I'll post a new pic this evening. I attached an old pic but I've made a few changes since then to lose almost a pound.

I have tried tape but have switched to a method similar to yours. I use light-weight (1.5 ounce) fiberglass cloth bedded in Minwax Polycrylic, which is water based. Polycrylic is probably not as strong as resin but is less messy and easier to clean up after.

Best way to tell is to get a wattmeter and take notes...i.e. throttle time, number of climbs, etc and check your battery after each run. Start low and move your way up...

I don't use the stock setup so I can't help you with that!

Here is my setup:
Upgraded Radian

Well that shouldn't be a problem with the DX8.

On the stock 1300 pack, with multiple climbs and some reserve capacity I usually get at least an hour of flying, sometimes more. With two packs and one battery charger you can stay up all day.

It flew for 12 minutes in that config with a GoPro added as well. I get an easy 15 minutes in this config which is about 0.9 lb lighter and more stream lined.
