IMO, you'd be miles ahead if you bought a good sim and practiced on
that instead of one of these heli stands. Phoenix, RealFlight, FMS
One, Aerofly Pro are all decent products and will net you some
practical experience before you dive into the real thing.

If you're set on the real thing, build yourself a set of training gear
and follow the instruction at Radd's School of Rotary Flight

Agreed! The helicopter does not respond normally when it's tied to some
mechanical contrivance holding it to the ground. And, those training stands
do not guaranty in any way to keep you from crashing. Today's sims will be
a lot closer to letting you know how the model will feel in the air than
that training stand ever will.

*Ding-a-ling*. There really IS nothing better than a sim (even a freebie)
for getting the head muscles working properly.
