Great pic! I would bet you a dollar that the hawse pipe cover was made by the ships MR (Machinery Repairman). Like I said usually the cover was a simple strap steel frame with some expanded metal over it (easy and cheap to replace, when they rust (or get kicked over the side (we did that once)).

Mk13 Missile launcher progress, added lifting eyes, what I believe are blast doors and made a start on the 2 hatches .

Do the Aussie FFG still have a working Mk13? I know they have the box for VLS sea-sparrow (is that the hole just forward in the pic?).

All four ships currently in service have working MK 13, Somebody on another forum mentioned climbing into one with live Harpoon in 1987 ( you mentioned Harpoon capability somewhere?)

VLS will cover the hole and is an 8 cell launcher with four ESSM per cell, I haven't been able to determine if it is the self defence or tactical unit, the I know Strike length will not fit where it has been put.

Its short cells for quad pack ESSM's. Our Mk13 launcher and systems have been upgraded to use SM-2MR's

Thanks for the info, I always thought it was kind of a shame that the few USN FFG's had the single armed bandit removed. Everyone I have ever talked to said that are fine sea boats (for their size) and good general purpose ships (exactly what a frigate is supposed to be).

Very cool! I wish you had that Mk13 as a polymer part available for purchase, I'd get one and put it on a plaque for my buddy Scott. He spent many hours gundecking the maintenance on our Mk13, it's a wonder that thing ever launched a missle...

Why are they so busy gundecking just before an UNREP? You can see the T&D (telephone and distance) line flaked out on the focs'le (why are they running it there, we always ran it from the signal bridge, just aft of the bridge). Like most missile monks I ever met I note they are covered in grease and oil (who says it was just snipes that got dirty LOL).

I thought that that line needed to be visible from the bridge so the distance could be kept correct using the flags.

The phone and distance line on the bow was a typical placement for a Perry class frigate, it was easy to see from the bridgewing and the conning officer didn't have to keep watching aft...

Looks great. I have a 1/96 Perry that I wanted to do as the RAN version. I have never started the semi kit as I do not think I could do all those masts properly. All those bits have to be exactly done. Will you be using plastic or metal for your masts?

Thanks Gravman,
I'm calling it 10 foot scale, It looks OK from 10 foot away

I think I will be doing them in carbon fibre rod, there's a full cart of CF tube and strip at Hobbyking awaiting some action from me I seriously considered doing a fantasy upgrade with a super modern stealth stack, but I will build it current Aust. as far as what I have in pics. Masts are something Im realy looking forward to

At least there are fittings for the 1/72 and 1/96, there is very little that I can find on the web in 1/48.
