From the specs on that motor and ESC, the combo should work well for 6-8 cells. I was planning on 8S. My GWS 15 is 79. I know they're different planes in just about every aspect possible,, but 80 on that isn't anything difficult to manage.

Yeah, I bought this ESC only so that i could upgrade to 8 cells later on. After flying on 6 cells, I found it unnecessary to go with 8 cells.

I'll still be following this thread, but I have started a conversion thread for my Top Flite Gold Edition P-51B.

Back to work!

After more than 2 months, I'm back at it! During the break from the Corsair, I've learned to fly helis, and I got myself a P-38 that I've been flying often now. I also lost my Twin Otter in a mid-air collision. I've also been designing something for the Corsair that I can't talk about yet but it is very neat, so really I have not been away from the Corsair for as long as it seems. Looking forward to getting this bird airborne again soon. I'm guessing sometime in January if everything goes smoothly.

I was planning on starting off with 8 cells and the 16x10 prop. Do you think that prop is going to be good for 8S?

You're gunna draw a ton of amps, but I think the motor may be rated for it. Make sure you use a Wattmeter when testing it out. I'm telling you, 6 cells was PLENTY for a 16x10 prop with my power combo.

I'll be flying around 5,000 ft elev. I usually have to up the power a bit. This is the biggest plane I've done, but I imagine I will need to give this a little more oomph too. Maybe I'll try 7 cells. I don't have anything else that is going to use a 5,000 mAh pack, regardless of 3S or 4S. So I don't think there will be THAT much benefit to keeping them the same.

Sanded the filler down today. I still have a long way to go. Now I need to lay up a mold over this to capture the shape.

What RX did you decide on using. I read you chose Futaba 2.4. How many channels are you running on your Corsair?

Do you have photos of how you mounted your RX and your BEC setup?

I use the R617FS receiver. I'm running 5 channels, but will be 6 when I get the retracts installed. I don't use a BEC. I have a 6V battery pack to power the electronics. I'll get a picture of the inside of the fuselage next time I go out to the garage.

Wow, this morning I called around to find someone who carries fiberglass mat (chopped stand stuff), and I just came back from a local boat repair shop with plenty of it along with mold release wax and PVA... all for free! The guy told me he had plenty of it and I was taking such small amounts that it wasn't worth it to even sell it. I tried giving him even $10 and he refused to accept. Good stuff! I think I have most of the stuff I need now to finish up the doors. I'll be working on it all week.

Slow progress, but it's coming along. I'll pop the cured mold off of the wing tomorrow morning to see how it turned out.
