3dHobbyshop 57" Sukhoi Su-26mx

Well, since Scott owns the real N25SU, we’ve been talking about doing a Sukhoi 26 for a long time…but Scott wanted to wait until he felt we could really do it right. That time has finally come. Scott tweaked the shape in CAD to give this model exactly the flight characteristics he wanted, and it paid off. This is a great-flying aircraft. It’s fast at full throttle, like a Sukhoi should be, and floats though 3D maneuvers perfectly whenever you ask it to. Harrier is very solid; the prototypes can be flown without rock upright and inverted. It also has very low coupling in pitch and roll, which is basically unheard-of in Sukhoi 26 models.

Introducing the 57” Sukhoi 26MX

"Scott developed a larger SU26 for us. The 57” shares all the good traits of the 49”, and includes all parts in the kit box to install either a 4S-6S electric system or a 46-60 2stroke / 62-82 4stroke glow engine. It features one-piece scale molded carbon landing gear, double-ball links, HD aluminum axles….plus it’s a seriously fast and smooth precision plane that can 3D really well when asked. Like the 49”, it comes in two color schemes, and the 57” features Ultracote covering.

Noah Grotheer (NumbSkull), a beta-tester on this model, said “It’s a pattern plane until you flip on the high rates!”.

The 57” Sukhoi is expected to retail in the $239 range.

The awesome vinyl graphics on the 57” demo planes at SEFF were designed by Michael Day (800MZero) and produced by Scott’sRC Images. The RedBull graphics on the 49” were produced by Rob at ADCHobbyStore.com. Both sets will be available to order for these airplanes. A photo-realistic virtual cockpit will be available for both aircraft from Wright RC.

More info to come, and watch for HD video of Scott’s new Sukhois on Fred Midgett’s FlightPass website." --Ben Fisher (Owner 3dhs)

Just got off the phone with Ben,
Ben can I fly the 57 on a GR-60 and 4s? or is it going to need the 5s

If yes...I might have to chage from the 49" to the 57"

Yes, it will fly fine on the 4S and GR 60. You'd need 4S in the 4000 range for good flight time though, minimum 3300.

yeah, 4000-5000mah 4S would be appropriate.

Electric purists do not read

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's some slimy glow info:

We've been doing the prototype flying on the Saito .82 and only the Saito .82 If I have to spend time w/ a glow engine, it's going to be a good one. The Saito .82 has always been a very good one. Also, it's a powerful paint-shaker and makes for a good test of airframe integrity.

When we started the project, we arranged for a mirror-image mounting system to allow a glow engine to be mounted either upside-down (scale looks) or right-side up (better idle). For the Saito, at least, the right-side-up mount has proven unnecessary. From day one, we've had the Saito upside-down, and it has never let us down.

The Saito provides roughly (almost) the same amount of power as the 5S electric system on 30% fuel. After prop testing, we've settled on the APC 15x4W, but this prop is not a break-in prop, so save it until you get several tanks through the motor, and break in on a 14" prop. On the 15x4, hover is slightly above half-throttle on the 30%.

The kit includes the glow mount, the tank, and the necessary conversion wood pieces to set up the glow engine. We will be recommending applying quite a bit of 30 minute spoxy with a brush. This seals everthing from the incredible amount of oil a 4 stroke pumps out and strengthen the lightweight structure significantly (so it can stand up to the paint shaking).

If anyone has any questions about this setup, let me know. Pics, numbers, and hopefully video are coming soon.

omg... Glowed 3DH! I dont know how to act.
(Sigh) My only glow motor worthy of this plane is a Fa-100 - 21oz +/-
Can I get away with it (take a guess), or is it just too much vibration & weight?

Will be going GR-60 with 4S2P.

Ben - can you make an announcement when the GR-60/Air Boss 80A package (or individually for that matter) is available?

The Reappa site say's, 3-5 lipo?
I don't have a problem going to a 4s2p setup but, I can't use a 5s lipo with it?

George,

You could use a 5s pack but with a 800Kv rating you would need a pretty small prop to keep the amp/watts within reason. I think this is why a 4s setup would be better allowing you to easily use a 14" to 15" prop on a solid 4s battery pack for 3D type flying.

If you are looking to only sport fly the 57" Suk. then a 5s pack with a smaller diameter prop would work out just fine.

I accidentally glued a wheel on my 55 SHP to the axle the other day, now instead of wasting the money on a new wheel and axle I suppose I will just have to get one of these. I guess I will tell the Mrs. tomorrow.....
