For servos I might suggest the United Hobbies (google) HXT 900 9 gram servos (very good) and cost a whopping $3.50 each ... true.
Makes the Hitecs look like 70's Kraft servos.

Reveret, what is the .049 ( ? ) in the upper left corner of the table ? Obviously it has a taller glow plug/head on it than the typical .049 engine.

I picked up one of those, identical to that one, but wonder if it is possible to get glow heads for it, and what it is most suited to power. This one is mounted on a glider pylon, and I suspect that it will turn over slower than the "standard" model.

Any input would be greatly appreciated !

I agree, I just saw an excellent closeup picture of one and that is the item !

Now, could someone tell me what makes a "Texaco" engine different than the standard cox engines. That is, is it higher or lower performance? Obviously the tank is larger , but what is the idea with the extra tall glow plug ?

Jim, I've never flown the Texaco event, but the idea was to get something like a 15 minute flight with the alloted fuel. The engine was slowed (throttled) down by swinging a large prop, but that means more compression, which means more heat, which means more fin area to rid that demon. Cox did a great job developing the engine for this event, because the alternative was to butcher your existing .049 to do the job.

Well, I doubt that I would ever be making a plane to be Texaco event compatible, but thank you for that explanation.

I am seriously thinking of putting a power pod on an old "Gentle Lady" sailplane that I have, and using an engine like that to get the plane up to a good altitude. Then when the engine quits, I should be able to glide it for some time, especially if I can find some nice thermals.

Using a calibrated syringe to fuel it, I should be able to figure out how long the engine will run, and thus, how high I should be able to get the glider before the engine times out.

Well, that is an idea, anyway.

I flew my PT-19 with the Cox Ranger .049 and it was very marginal. Problem is the engine had enough power but the 6/3 was too small. A Cox 7/3.5 was better on Cox red can fuel (30%) but that was tough on the paint. I think it might do well with either a PAW diesel or even an outrunner electric if you took care with radio selection for weight.

Back in '83 I had the cox Cessna, with a .049. Flew it several times, with all flights resulting in crashes, learning to fly it.

Nice pictures cmulder!! They make great room decor.

BTW, there's a very nice r/c PT-19 on eBay right now, 11/21.
